Midwifery science: Teaching research day 2023

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, the annual Midwifery Science Teaching Research Day took place at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU). Students, midwives and practice supervisors from the cooperating clinics and the freelance sector as well as the midwifery science education team were present. Students from the part-time degree programs B. Sc. midwifery course. In small groups, they worked on a research project from scratch as part of a seminar that lasted three semesters. With their projects, they contribute to the further development of the discipline of midwifery science and identify fields of research for future scientific work.

The day was opened with a welcome address by the Vice President of the HWG LU,  Professor Nina Knape. The comprehensive program in the morning covered exciting topics such as the pregnancy experience during the COVID pandemic or interprofessional collaboration between gynaecologists and midwives. The varied program of contributions was supplemented by short breaks for collegial exchange. After the lunch break, the program continued with an open discussion round. One of the topics discussed was how research findings could be better communicated to midwives working in practice. This should help to reduce the gap between scientific findings and practice.

In the afternoon, a contribution on the marketing influence of medical professionals on pregnant women and families stood out. The content of antenatal classes was also discussed. One of the speakers was a student who is currently on her semester abroad in Canada and was connected virtually. The successful educational research day was rounded off with a get-together over coffee and cake at the end of the event.
