Either one or honorary office? - Why not just both!?

Yesterday, students Denise Seib and Sabiha Acar were awarded the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society Honorary Scholarship for their outstanding commitment and remarkable academic achievements. The two honorary scholarships are endowed with € 3,600 per person and are awarded once a year as part of the funding provided by the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation.

The list of their voluntary activities is long and the award is more than deserved: Denise Seib, a student on the dual Bachelor's degree program in Nursing, and Sabiha Acar, a Master's student on the Controlling degree program, are delighted to receive this year's honorary scholarships from the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation. An interdisciplinary jury of four selected the two dedicated students from almost 25 qualified applicants, and for good reason. According to the call for applications, the scholarships are intended for talented students who stand out in a special way through their voluntary social commitment - both criteria that the two award winners fulfill excellently:

"Bringing joy and great experiences to children from all social classes" is what drives Denise Seib, who has been active in the children's and youth work of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) since she was eight years old. She is now the regional youth leader for Rhineland-Palatinate with voting rights in the ABS association and has also trained as a paramedic. In combination with her work on the pediatric ward of a clinic and a current grade point average of 1.0 in the dual bachelor's degree course in nursing at the HWG LU, this made her an ideal candidate for the honorary award.

The jury and audience were similarly impressed by the achievements of this year's second prizewinner, Sabiha Acar. A "study pioneer" in her family, she is currently studying for a Master's degree in Controlling with an average grade of 1.3. She is also the mother of two children, aged two and five, and is passionately involved in the Yessidi cultural association. She is particularly interested in informing and educating people about the femicide of Yazidi women by the IS. But she also attaches great importance to a lively exchange with a wide variety of people and world views: "For me, there is nothing better than living and sharing culture."

The two young women were officially honored at a small ceremony on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society. "When I see how full most students' everyday lives are with completing the required coursework, I can only say: you deserve our highest recognition," said University President Prof. Dr. Gunter Piller, praising the two award winners before the ceremonial presentation of the certificates. Kerstin Gallenstein, Head of the International Office, also found moving words in her laudatory speech: "You have both impressively demonstrated that excellent academic achievements and voluntary work do not have to be mutually exclusive, as is so often claimed. You can be really proud of that."

The HWG LU awards the two honorary scholarships annually as part of the funding provided by the Rhineland-Palatinate Scholarship Foundation. The prizes are endowed with € 3,600 per person.
