In its anniversary year, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society invited guests young and old to the anniversary children's university "Expedition Nutrition" and a colorful family festival on campus yesterday.
HWG LU's children's university for children aged between eight and twelve has been running for exactly 20 years in 2024! The university celebrated this with a cheerful children's university family festival on 16.07.2024 on the university campus at Ernst-Boehe-Straße 4 in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim: The family festival started at 3.00 pm. Children's University participants from the last 20 years presented themselves here with many hands-on stations: The University's East Asia Institute, the Graduate School-Rhein-Neckar, the Ludwigshafen Child Protection Association, the City of Ludwigshafen/Environment and Climate - Waste Advice Department, NABU, the Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Advice Center/Food & Nutrition Department, the University Chaplaincy, the Local Agenda 21 Ludwigshafen initiative with the Children's Future Diploma, the International Office, Facility Management or the University's Center for Research and Cooperation were all there, for example. There was also an egg-running parkour, face painting, stick-on tattoos and a wheel of fortune, as well as crafts, puzzles and learning new things. For the little ones, there were also stories read aloud every half hour by former children's university organizer Ute Sahmel.
The real centerpiece of the day was the anniversary children's university lecture on "Expedition Nutrition - through the labyrinth of fries, burgers and ice cream." Expedition leaders Prof. Dr. Armin Leibig and Anika Werner from the degree programs in Nursing Education took the kids and their families into "Leckerland" for an hour and, after a relaxed warm-up session, led them through the labyrinth of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and more to the top of the food pyramid with lots of fun and good humour in the packed auditorium.
Over 150 guests, young and old, enjoyed the offer and had a lot of fun. A big thank you to everyone involved!
In the winter semester 2024/2025, the HWG LU will continue with three regular children's university lectures; the program is expected to be published in September.
The children's university lectures are a joint initiative of the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science and Health and the state's universities.
