Business informatics deals with information processing in business, administration and the private sector. Systems that contain both human and machine components. These systems support the collection, structuring and processing of data. Today's information systems support decision-making and the control of value-added processes. Business informatics is an interface between business administration and computer science.
As a minimum, you should be able to break down complex problems into small, manageable pieces and then solve them with the required precision. This also requires a healthy degree of perseverance and a willingness to work together.
Content & procedure
There is always a preliminary course in mathematics and an introductory week at the beginning of the course. The preliminary course in mathematics is recommended if your basic knowledge is not at A-level. The introductory week is an absolute must for all newcomers to the university. Here you will be given an overview of the relevant information about the course and how to access it.
The aim of the course is to promote specialist, methodological and social skills, to teach basic business knowledge and current topics in business informatics and to combine theory and practice.
Initially, you will gain an insight into the basics of business administration, programming and business informatics. This knowledge will be deepened over the course of the semester.
In the programming courses, you will learn the basics of the JAVA programming language with the Eclipse development environment. You will then learn techniques in the advanced course on web applications, which will be incorporated into a practical project at the end of the course.
In the background of such a project there is always a lot of data to which permanent read and write access must be implemented. This is done using a database management system and the database language SQL to define data structures in relational databases.
Data science is based on the analysis of data sets in order to derive recommendations for action for the company. Analysis tools are used to develop queries that distil valuable information from confusing amounts of data. Hypotheses are then derived, statistically tested and prepared for management as a basis for decision-making.
Business Intelligence introduces the essential components of decision-supporting information systems and provides knowledge of traditional approaches, the state of the art and future developments. Furthermore, the technology required for the BI process is dealt with both from a theoretical point of view and deepened in practical exercises.
Finally, in the business management section, you will learn how to make reliable decisions while taking possible risks into account. You will then be able to design organizations and processes in a goal-oriented manner, correctly classify the characteristics of services and the resulting challenges, analyze practical problems and independently develop solutions. Various management techniques will complement your management skills.
Subject-specific English, soft skills and advanced topics in business administration and IT are taught throughout the course. At the end of your studies, you will complete a compulsory internship at a company of your choice. Here you should acquire as much practical knowledge and skills as possible for your entry into professional life.
Below you will find all the lectures of the degree program with parameters, names and lessons per week. You can filter the lectures in the university portal using the parameter and/or the name. However, you can only gain full access to the university portal with an active university account. The Content column contains information about the lectures. The examination period begins directly after the end of the semester. You can find this and other important dates under semester dates.
