Study semester abroad
Are you planning to complete your mandatory semester at a university abroad? That is a very good decision! On this page you will find the necessary information about the preparation, follow-up and recognition of your semester abroad.
The obligatory semester abroad usually takes place in the 6th semester of the BIM degree programs. In order for this to be recognized, you must complete some formalities before and after the semester abroad.
Keep your eyes open for the date of the semester abroad information event, which takes place once a semester. The date will be communicated via OLAT and you should attend this event in the 3rd or 4th semester (attending the event is a prerequisite for being allowed to go abroad!).
Before the semester abroad
The following minimum requirements must be met:
- Participation in the information event on the subject of a semester abroad
- Passing all module examinations of the first three semesters of study (proof by grade transcript)
- English B2 certificate
The following documents must be bundled (i.e. IN ONE email) and submitted to Mr. Gkontokos in Department 1 for approval:
- Approval of the services to be provided abroad
- incl. course descriptions (please always list alternative subjects if the desired courses do not materialize)
- incl. current transcript of records
After approval by the International Affairs Officer in the Department, please submit the approval with your application for the semester abroad to International Affairsat the latest.
During the semester abroad
In case of changes to the courses IMMEDIATELY Consult the International Office and the responsible Program Manager in the Department (currently: contact Ms. Notheis).
After the semester abroad
The following documents must be submitted for recognition of the semester abroad:
- Certificate of enrollment from the foreign university.
- Certificate of the passed, pre-approved study achievements to the extent of 30 credits (ECTS), of which
- 15 - 22 credits in the field of international business studies
- 7.5 - 15 credits from the area of Regional Aspects
- Conversion of grades from the International Aspects area
- a field report of at least 1,500 words in English
- to be submitted no later than the 1st week of lectures of the following semester
- questionnaire about the semester abroad
- Presentation of the semester abroad as well as electronic submission of the presentation documents in the following semester
- Application for recognition of examination achievements during the semester abroad

You have not achieved 30 ECTS abroad. What now?
If you decide to spend a semester abroad at a non-partner university, you must take care of your semester abroad yourself. However, course-specific formalities before and after the semester abroad also apply to you!
All documents both before and after the semester abroad must be submitted to the Departments!!!
