Grand Hotel Cosmopolis

Project management:Prof. Dr. Ariane Brenssell
Project duration:May 6-7, 2014
Project description:

"Grand Hotel Cosmopolis" - New approaches in diversity-conscious social work using the example of refugee work. A presentation and workshop discussion at the start of a research cooperation.

The "Grand Hotel Cosmopolis" in Augsburg has been breaking new ground in diversity-conscious refugee work for almost two years now and is considered a model project against discrimination and isolation of people seeking asylum in Germany. Due to the special task of taking in traumatized women and children, the project also pursues a health-preventative and gender-sensitive (trauma) approach. The cooperation and coexistence between people with and without papers, the connection between art, social work and politics is unique. The project in the heart of Augsburg has therefore been able to attract a broad public. Diversity goals are consciously pursued, such as the expansion of participation opportunities, special attention to gender aspects, etc. In order to make this unique approach to diversity-conscious social work accessible to students of social work, students in the healthcare sector, interested educators and others, we would like to invite two representatives of the project to a four-hour event on May 7, 2014. They will report on the history, concerns and challenges in the work of the "Grandhotel Cosmopolis", present their work visually and take part in the discussion. In addition, possibilities for (research) cooperation with a focus on participatory and diversity-conscious research will be discussed in a workshop discussion.

Target groups:Students and educators from the Department of Social and Health Care, citizens of the city of Ludwigshafen, friends and creators of the Hack Museum/Project "Hack in the city: Tortenschachtel", refugee and diversity projects and initiatives in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen.
Diversity dimension:Expanding the participation of people with a migration background, refugees and undocumented people; diversity and disability with a focus on "mental disability through traumatization"; gender; innovative practice in diversity-conscious social work; presentations of a "good practice" project in the field of diversity.
