Life situations and experiences of LGBTQI* in health and social care institutions.
Project management: | Prof. Dr. Regina Brunnett |
Project duration: | May - November 2017 |
Project description: | LGBTQI* refers to the heterogeneous group of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queer and intersex people. In recent years, research in Germany has begun to focus on the concerns and needs of LGBTQI*. Life situations, interests, social situations and psychosocial problems differ considerably within the group. The quality of healthcare and social services for LGBTQI* in Germany is in some cases reduced, often due to insecurities and problems on the part of employees as well as institutional hurdles in health and social care facilities. This favors discrimination and exclusion, which is not compatible with the requirements for diverse and high-quality healthcare and needs-oriented care in social institutions. The lecture and the subsequent workshop initially aim to convey basic principles and background knowledge. An introductory lecture on the topic of LGBTQI*/queer theory with reference to practice is intended to create a common basis. This will be followed by a workshop discussion based on short inputs focused on the professional fields of nursing/midwifery and social work, which will raise awareness. This should provide impetus for practical work and increase participants' awareness of diversity with regard to sexuality and gender-related categories. |
Target groups: | Students, employees and educators at the university, citizens of the city of Ludwigshafen, LGBTQI* counseling centers in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, nursing schools, hospitals, geriatric care facilities, social and healthcare facilities in the surrounding area |
Diversity dimension: | Expanding the consideration of sexual orientation and gender identity in health and social care facilities. |
