Research at the Department of Social and Health Services
The research pages on the Department's homepage provide information on research topics, funding and support for research, doctoral opportunities and research events at the Department.
The Department sees research as an important part of science that critically examines social developments and thus also intervenes in social discourse. The basis of the research profile is therefore an understanding of "critical science", which sees the areas of "social work" and "care and health" as well as science itself as being shaped by socially determined tensions and contradictions or those arising from individual lifestyles:
1. between institutionalized services with their administrative, economic, legal, self-preserving organizational logic and the addressed users with their subjective ideas of the good life, with their stubbornness and their specific needs,
2. between scientific-academic training with its freedom, its professional-ethical ideals, its high professional standards of good practice and the reality of everyday working life with its pressure to perform, lack of staff and resources and problematic working conditions.
Among other things, these contradictions give rise to tasks for practice-, institution- and everyday life-oriented research references as well as for the further development of scientific concepts and theories. Further introductory information on the Department's research concept can be found here.
The Center for Research and Cooperation (ZFK), as a service point of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society for research-relevant topics, provides further important information on its homepage.
