25 kids joined the children's university lectures on 5.6.19 for an adventurous journey "20,000 leagues under the sea" in the city library.
Ms. Gensheimer and Ms. Goldschmidt, employees of the city library, and Mr. Schostok, who is doing his FSJ, started - together with the kids - with the assembly of VR glasses. Patience and a lot of help were required until everything was ready. Cell phones were then distributed and inserted into the goggles - and then it was time to get started.
The adventure began in 1866, when sailors reported monsters, islands and other bizarre things, and the oceanographer Professor Pierre Arronax came to Captain Nemo on the Nautilus after a shipwreck. There he experienced exciting adventures.
The story was constantly interrupted so that VR goggles could be used to catch a glimpse of the open sea, the rooms of the Nautilus, walks on the seabed or the emergence of the giant squid. And during the excursions on the seabed you could see - Atlantis: so it did exist........?!??
The children's reactions were the same everywhere: total enthusiasm and exclamations such as "that's amazing" - "hey, there are people on the ship" - "boah, I see something" - "oops, there's a piano" - "hey, look, can you see that too?" - "Ew, an octopus, and so big"
If you want to build VR goggles at home and then immerse yourself in the world of adventure with your cell phone, you need an app: google expedition - and you're ready to go.
And so that everyone who didn't have a chance to take part in the lecture in June still has a chance to experience this adventure - we're offering the lecture again in January. We will write to the kids who are on the waiting list again. And if there are still places available, we will also accept registrations.
And now we wish you a great summer and send you our warmest regards
Your children's university team
