On April 1, 2025, Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd and Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, India, visited the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU). Somaiya University and HWG LU have been cooperating informally for several years, with students from Ludwigshafen living on the Indian campus for 1-2 weeks once a year, attending lectures there, working on projects with Indian students and visiting companies - all this as a "Doing business in India" course, organized and personally accompanied by Prof. Dr. Manuel Vermeer from the East Asia Institute (OAI) of the university.
President Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller and the Vice President for International Affairs and Communication, Prof. Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck, received Mr. Somaiya and exchanged ideas about further cooperation during an hour-long conversation; an example of this is the possible participation of HWG LU start-ups in the Indian Maker Mela, a 2-day activity for innovation and start-ups. At the OAI, which Mr. Somaiya visited afterwards, there is already an elective course "Doing business in India" and so the cooperation between HWG LU and Somaiya University will definitely be expanded, which is of great interest to our university in view of the growing importance of the Indian market.
