HWG LU supports petition of Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz for expansion of emergency fund for students in financial distress
Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) is participating in a petition by the Vorderpfalz Student Union to establish an emergency fund for students in the Corona crisis. The petition, which was set up on the initiative of the Vorderpfalz Student Union, is also supported by the colleges and universities in Landau, Worms and Germersheim, and was sent to the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Science, Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf, on April 14, 2020. The latter had expressed his openness to the issue in an online conference with the state's university administrations.
A goal of the Petition is it to support by an increase of the emergency assistance by additional national funds students, who by the Corona crisis, e.g. the omission of Nebenjobs, without being to blame for into financial troubles got. According to the perception of the Studierendenwerk as well as the university, this concerns in particular international students, for whom security systems such as Bafög or loans with German guarantors are not effective.
University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra: "The number of applications for emergency aid has already increased significantly, the peak is not yet foreseeable and the provision of financial aid is existential for many students. We therefore consider a clear positioning important and purposeful and carry the petition accordingly, although the Minister has already signaled his support on Maundy Thursday and will bring the issue in the talks with the federal government, where he believes it should be dealt with first."
