Tabea Seith, a midwifery student at the HWG LU, spent the winter semester at Vancover Island University in Canada. Here she reports on her experiences:
The semester abroad at Vancouver Island University (VIU) was a great and enriching experience. The university is located in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island and can be reached from Vancouver in about 1.5 hours by ferry.
Since the midwifery degree programs were not offered locally, as a midwifery student I had the opportunity to choose courses based on my interest. These courses helped to refresh and expand my professional knowledge, emphasizing international perspectives. It took a while to get an overview of the semester schedule and coursework at the beginning of the semester. In general, VIU's campus is large and offers well-equipped education and study spaces as well as a modern library with a charming view.
It was nice to experience the diversity of the students and lecturers at VIU, which led to an intercultural exchange. In addition, the university offers a wide range of different activities in which you can participate without any constraints. This enables the exchange of different cultures, ideas and perspectives and creates a pleasant atmosphere.
In addition to studying, you had the opportunity to discover the nature of British Columbia. The university's organized excursions and events promote student cohesion, among other things. You can actively organize your free time and enjoy nature - be it through hikes or excursions to the beaches.
The semester abroad in Nanaimo at Vancouver Island University was a positive experience overall. The intercultural encounters and the impressive natural environment helped to make this time special.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have done this exchange and consider it a significant part of my academic and personal life.
