Delegation from Zambia visits

In the week from March 10 to 13, 2025, a delegation from the Lusaka College of Nursing and Midwifery visited the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) to further expand cooperation in midwifery education. The guests included Angela Chipepo Mwaba, deputy director of the college, as well as Daisy Chiti Mulenga Syakantu and Naomi Bweupe, both senior lecturers in the field of midwifery education.

The exchange took place in particular with the midwifery and nursing scientists at the HWG LU. In November 2024, Bachelor of Midwifery Science students from Ludwigshafen had already completed a practical placement at the college's affiliated clinic in Lusaka, where they gained valuable experience in a clinical and academic environment. The visit by the Zambian colleagues now offered the opportunity to further deepen this exchange and develop new perspectives for future collaboration.

A central component of the future cooperation will be the mutual exchange of teaching staff and students. Both academic education and practical training at both universities should benefit from this. Another important focus is on capacity building: In a jointly planned research project, an innovative training tool for the skills lab in Lusaka will be introduced and scientifically monitored. During their stay in Ludwigshafen, the delegation already had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this tool in a workshop and discuss initial potential applications.

In addition to the professional exchange and the lecture on midwifery in Zambia as part of a course, there were also insights into the German healthcare system. A visit to the delivery room at Mannheim University Hospital enabled the guests to get to know clinical training and care in Germany at close quarters.

On Thursday, the delegation continued their trip to Koblenz to visit other training facilities and further intensify cooperation in the field of nursing.

Both sides found the meeting extremely enriching. "This exchange is a great opportunity to learn from each other and to strengthen midwifery training internationally," emphasized one of the Zambian lecturers. The cooperation between the institutions will therefore continue to play an important role in the development and quality assurance of midwifery science in the future.
