Hands-on science - with projects and hands-on activities, the EMPOWER team presented itself to a broad public for the first time last weekend at the Mainz Science Market. The EMPOWER team came up with a number of ideas to make the megatrend topics on which the participating universities are jointly researching tangible for visitors: Visitors were attracted by breakfast boards and other 3D objects that could be designed and created in the course of "Digital Manufacturing" in front of the EMPOWER tent, or by the augmented and virtual reality glasses with which options for action in digital space could be experienced. The Hacking Challenge, which was designed to raise awareness of the topic of IT security, as well as bags that visitors could fill themselves with native flower seeds in the context of an "urban experimentation area" were also very well received. The principles of New Work could be visualized with the help of Lego Duplo bricks and put together in a meaningful way in the form of a house with foundations, load-bearing walls and a roof. With "BaSeTaLK", the EMPOWER team also presented an app that residents of nursing homes can nevertheless use to go on virtual excursions. "For EMPOWER, the science market was an ideal platform for transferring current issues from business and society and corresponding solution approaches, which are being developed and evaluated in the joint project, to society and the region," summarizes Prof. Dr. Anett Mehler-Bicher, head of the overall project, after the successful EMPOWER premiere.
