One week before the official start of lectures, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society welcomed the new freshmen: today, Monday, March 11, 2019, the first-year students of the 2019 summer semester were welcomed to the central campus at Ernst-Boehe-Straße 4. Here, the "first-timers" had the opportunity to find out about their future university away from the actual study activities, get to know the central campus, the professors, the service facilities and, last but not least, their first fellow students.
The first semester welcome was opened with the traditional welcome service, organized by Pastor Susanne Schramm and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Andreas Rein, Dean of the Department of Social and Health Care. Based on the story of Abraham - a central figure in the Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions - Pastor Schramm encouraged the students to "put your whole heart into shaping a more peaceful and just world": "You shall be a blessing."
In his welcoming address, University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra also appealed to the new students to embrace their studies and the challenges they present and to retain their joy of learning and childlike curiosity. In addition to gaining knowledge and critically reflecting on what they have learned, it is just as important to maintain social contacts and make friends. The President revealed that he himself had always drawn a lot of strength from making his own decisions: "Studying means a lot of work, but also a great deal of freedom," said Mudra.
Students An-Viet Sattler and Felix Müller then presented the work of the General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Parliament (Stupa). Together with representatives from the individual Departments, the Student Service Center, the International Office, the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz, the Bafög Office and the Deutschlandstipendium, they then answered questions from the new arrivals in the foyer and gave tips on starting their studies. Degrees were followed by guided tours of the campus, followed by a free city tour of Ludwigshafen by bus. In the afternoon, the introductory events of the individual Departments and degree programs kicked off the induction week at 3.00 pm.
As a small welcome to the first semester students, the well-filled "Ersti-Bags" were once again available this year - this time in a new design. In addition, the AStA of the university invites the new fellow students to the Ersti-Get-together in the L3-Lounge on 12.03.2019 from 19.30 and to the Chaplin Club in Mannheim on 20.03.2019 from 22.00.
Around 500 students will be starting their Bachelor's or Master's degree at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society in the 2019 summer semester. The Bachelor's degree course in Marketing is once again in particularly high demand this year.
