European Accountancy Week 2023 in Belgium, 2025 in Ludwigshafen

Once a year, the ETAP network (European Taxation and Accounting in Practice) organizes the so-called European Accountancy Week, a network meeting that brings together students and educators from all over Europe for a week. The next European Accountancy Week will take place in 2023 in Kortrijk, Belgium.

This year's working meeting in preparation for the next European Accountancy Week (EAW) could fortunately take place in presence again. The Brussels campus of the Odisee University of Applied Sciences hosted this important meeting to discuss the details of EAW 2023, which will take place on the Kortrijk campus of the VIVES University of Applied Sciences.

The arrival of the 19 university representatives from the 16 participating institutions from 14 European countries took place on Sunday evening, September 11, 2022; some journeys took less than an hour, others started early at four in the morning. Until their departure on Wednesday morning, there was plenty of time for the Europe-wide vote, but also for some friendly chats. There is no better way to experience Europe than in these discussions!

During the Working Meeting (Fig. 1), which was also attended online by two participants, important decisions were made: Joensuu (Finland), Innsbruck (Austria) and Kavala (Greece) have registered for the next Working Meetings; Kortrijk (Belgium) has confirmed the EAW event for 2023, followed by Lodz (Poland) in 2024 and Ludwigshafen in 2025. In addition, details of the implementation were discussed and financing options were discussed; for example, the EU's new Blended Intensive Program (BIP) funding program is to be used with immediate effect, which will also add virtual components to the Week. A tour of the city is obligatory (Fig. 2); the visit to MAZARS, a large auditing company, offers a special "outlook" (Fig. 3).

Prof. Dr. Axel Kihm has been a member of the ETAP network (European Taxation and Accounting in Practice) since2007 and has repeatedly organized the Working Meeting and the European Accountancy Week. He is particularly pleased to be able to organize the EAW 2025 at Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences. Almost 100 students and educators from all over Europe will spend a week learning, teaching and gaining (inter)cultural experience at our university.

But if you want to be there in Kortrijk next year, you should hurry. A maximum of 10 students from Department I can take part in this week and earn ECTS for their studies! "First com, first serve!" The costs of €400 are largely covered by the university and the BIP. Interested students from all Bachelor's and Master's degree courses can apply now to Katharina Notheis(Katharina.Notheis@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de) and Prof. Dr. Axel Kihm(axel.kihm@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de). An information event is planned for October at the Department.
