The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) stands for strong education in business administration, social and health care and is also characterized by its practical orientation, research strength and regional and international networking with institutions, partner universities, social institutions and commercial enterprises. But is this enough of an answer to the ever-increasing internal and external challenges, from climate change and the energy crisis to demographic and socio-political developments, the shortage of skilled workers, digitalization and AI? HWG LU is now deliberately addressing this question in a scientifically moderated and supported strategy process in cooperation with CHE Consult and Z Punkt The Foresight Company. The project to develop a viable and sustainable vision with derived options for action and recommendations for implementation began in fall 2022 and is now entering its second phase with the inclusion of external perspectives.
While at the start of the project, internal interests and perspectives on the university were primarily collected in individual discussions and group workshops and categorized with regard to possible future scenarios with a time horizon of 2030, the first interim results of the participatory process are now being critically reflected on via the broad-based steering committee and external perspectives are being included to a greater extent. The steering committee is broadly based and consists of representatives from the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science, the City of Ludwigshafen, the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar GmbH, students, Departments and the administration of HWG LU. Representatives from business and other public institutions are also represented by members of the University Council, the Board of Trustees and the alumni section. The committee makes directional decisions for the strategy development project and bundles the work results at the meta level.
The kick-off meeting of the steering committee took place on 30.01.2023 at the university. "Here we presented the initial interim results and discussed them intensively. In the further course of the process, options for action and concrete measures will be developed, which the steering committee will also reflect on as a "sparring partner" and make recommendations. The university considers itself fortunate to be able to involve this group in the process," says university president Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller, summarizing the current status. The results of the strategy process should be available in the summer.
