With a good 900 new students - Bachelor's and Master's students from the consecutive and continuing education programs as well as exchange students - the total number of students has once again reached a very good mark of over 4,700 students.
After three purely virtual first semester welcomes, the HWG LU was finally able to welcome some of its first semester students in person again today: around 90 new students were able to follow the welcome in person in the auditorium and conference rooms, where space was limited due to the coronavirus, while the majority of the more than 600 new Bachelor's students followed the start of their academic life virtually via the live stream on the university's YouTube channel.
University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra and the two Vice Presidents, Prof. Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck and Prof. Dr. Ellen Bareis, together with Chancellor (m.d.W.d.G.b.) Carolin Nöhrbaß, welcomed the 900 new students (according to preliminary figures) on behalf of the university: "We will take your success and satisfaction personally," promised University President Mudra. Ludwighafen's Lord Mayor Jutta Steinruck conveyed her greetings and wishes for the start of the semester via a recorded video message. The General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Parliament (StuPa) then presented the tasks and services of the student representatives to the new arrivals, followed by a presentation of the university by Rosario Celona and Sarah Gonzalez-Störkel, second and third semester marketing students respectively. Liaison lecturer Prof. Dr. Birgit Angermayer, the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz and the university chaplaincy also introduced their services to the students. Following the official welcome, the AStA offered guided tours of the campus in small groups and a games rally to get to know each other better.
Start of a hybrid winter semester
The hybrid first semester welcome marks the start of another hybrid winter semester: students can look forward to a mix of face-to-face and online events. The AStA is also kicking off the "new normal": tomorrow there will be a fresher's party at Club Chaplin - albeit with proof of 2G. And on Thursday, October 7, 2021, the newcomers can make their first contacts at the Ersti-Get2Gether at Freischwimmer Ludwigshafen from 7 pm.
According to preliminary figures, 678 Bachelor's and 201 Master's students (consecutive and continuing education) as well as 52 exchange students are starting the 2021/2022 winter semester. This brings the current total number of students to 4,724. The Bachelor's degree courses "Business Administration with a focus on Management, Controlling & Information" and "International Business Administration with a focus on Management" are increasingly in demand among applicants. The Bachelor's degree courses in "Marketing" and "Social Work" also remain very popular. There was also a big run on the Bachelor's degree course in Midwifery Science, which was offered for the first time.
