Kick for your career: 7th job fair of the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the 7th job fair of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society kicked off. Over 30 companies, social organizations and institutions presented themselves and recruited the workforce of tomorrow. Over 700 students, graduates, pupils and young professionals took the opportunity to find out about trainee programs, entry-level positions and student jobs, internships and practical topics for Bachelor's and Master's theses. This year, the job fair was held at two locations for the fourth time in a row in order to bring potential employers and candidates together even more closely: Exhibiting commercial enterprises presented themselves and what they have to offer at the central campus in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim, while institutions from the social and healthcare sector presented themselves at the Social and Healthcare Departments in the city center. In addition to the stands with information and advice from the exhibiting companies, there was also an application portfolio check by the Federal Employment Agency and the university's Career Center, tips from the Techniker Krankenkasse for a balanced study and work life and information about the university as an educational institution and employer.

This year, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society's job fair entered its seventh round and brought employers and future employees together at the company contact fair on campus. At the Ernst-Boehe-Straße location, companies such as the screw and fitting manufacturer em-Technik from Maxdorf, Enterprise Autovermietung Deutschland, Techniker Krankenkasse and Sparkasse Vorderpfalz presented themselves. IT and software companies such as SAP, Bilfinger Digital Next, Fasihi, EDEKA Digital, anuwo and Oxando as well as specialized personnel service providers such as etengo, Amadeus Fire and univativ were also here to attract the workforce of tomorrow. In addition to financial service providers such as tecis, consulting companies such as Occon, iQuadrat and Q-Perior AG were also on site.

Diakonissen Speyer, Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Kliniken, the IFKV training institute, CJD-Rhein-Pfalz/Nordbaden, Lebenshilfe Schwetzingen-Hockenheim, M-A-U-S seminars, the City of Speyer's youth development department and Ökumenische Sozialstation Ludwigshafen in the Departments of Social and Health Care presented themselves at the Maxstraße location. Caritas Förderzentrum St. Rafael and the Ludwigshafen-based outpatient service "Meine Hilfe" were also new to the event. The city of Ludwigshafen was also present with the Youth Support & Educational Counseling department and the LuZIE youth welfare service.

In addition to stand information and consultations with the exhibiting companies, the company contact fair organized by the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences under the patronage of Rhineland-Palatinate Science Minister Prof. Dr. Konrad Wolf and Ludwigshafen Mayor Jutta Steinruck also offered application portfolio checks by the Ludwigshafen Employment Agency and the university's Career Center. The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society also presented itself as a training company and employer.

"We feel very close to the city of Ludwigshafen and the region, its institutions, its economy and, last but not least, its citizens. With the job fair, we have created another communication platform at the interface between students, the city, companies, institutions and social facilities in the region," said University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra, explaining the idea behind the "job fair", adding: "We definitely want to maintain and further expand the format."

The exhibitors were also satisfied: Jasmin Beutelmann from Bilfinger Digital Next GmbH drew a positive balance at the halfway point: "In the context of digitalization topics, we are primarily looking for students and graduates from the fields of innovation management and business informatics and have already had some interesting discussions today. Many students came to the stand very specifically and well prepared" - an assessment shared by Hanna Salomon and Pia Achilles from Fasihi GmbH, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the university. The trade fair team from Occon GmbH, an owner-managed consulting and service company for transport procurement, also praised the trade fair as a sustainable recruiting platform: "This is the second time we have taken part and we already have five working students from the university in Ludwigshafen - a 100% takeover rate".

The exhibitors at the Maxstraße location were also pleased with the keen interest shown by students from the Department of Social and Health Care: "This is our first time here and we are totally satisfied. We had a lot of good discussions and will definitely be back next year," said Annette Hargesheimer from Caritas Förderzentrum St. Rafael, for example. Michael Wendelken from Diakonissen Speyer is also already certain that his team will be back in 2020 - and not just because of the traditionally close cooperation between his institution and the university. "We would have liked even more students from the nursing sector at the stand, but the quality of the discussions is more important to us than the quantity," added Volker Wassmann from the Meine Hilfe nursing service.

And the students? They particularly appreciated the short distances, the selection of companies and the opportunity for direct discussions and personal contact. "I'm looking for a working student job in the IT sector, and there are quite a few companies here," said business informatics student Mehmet Agkale. "I'm particularly interested in the medium-sized companies from the region that you wouldn't have come across on your own," reported a student from the bachelor's degree course in International Human Resources Management and Organization after her interview with HR Manager Andrea Reinhard from the bolting and fittings manufacturer em-Technik, hidden champion from Maxdorf.

The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society job fair is set to bring companies and students together again in spring 2020. The date will be announced soon.
