Master's degree in Finance & Accounting: a European double degree in four semesters

First German-Polish double degree at HWG LU / New cooperation between the Master's degree program in Finance & Accounting and Katowice University of Economics / Double degree after four semesters of standard study time

From the winter semester 2024/25, students on the Master's degree course in Finance & Accounting at Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) will be able to place a strong European emphasis on their studies: Thanks to a new double degree agreement with the Katowice University of Economics, they can earn a Polish Master's degree in addition to their domestic degree.

Double degree in the standard period of study
Students aiming for such a double degree spend the third semester, which is an optional semester abroad, in Katowice, where they attend lectures in English at the University of Economics. Back in their home country, they then write their Master's thesis in English in the fourth semester and are supervised by a tandem consisting of one lecturer from Ludwigshafen and one from Katowice. The double degree can therefore be completed in the standard period of study of four semesters.

Conversely, the double degree program with the University of Economics in Katowice provides Polish students with the opportunity to complete a semester abroad at HWG LU and in turn obtain a Polish-German double degree.

"For several years now, we have been pursuing the goal of facilitating more international student exchanges in the Master's in Finance & Accounting. I would therefore like to thank Dr. Rafal Bula, Program Coordinator Finance and Accounting for Business at our partner university in Katowice, for enabling us to reach this important milestone together," explains Prof. Dr. Gösta Jamin, Head of the Master's in Finance & Accounting.

Poland attractive as a place to study and invest
A semester abroad in Poland is attractive for students due to its geographical proximity and also financially. The cost of living is relatively low compared to other European countries, there are no tuition fees at state universities and, as an EU member state, students are eligible for Erasmus funding.

For finance students in particular, there are other reasons to choose Poland: The neighboring country to the east has developed into one of Germany's most important trading partners over the past five years and ranks even higher than traditional western industrial nations such as Italy or the UK. EU member state Poland is also considered a highly attractive investment location in Germany, particularly for German industry, thanks to its well-trained and motivated workforce. "Experience in the Polish market is an important asset for our students; conversely, the same applies to Polish students in terms of experience in the German market," explains Jamin.

Finance degree program integrates finance and accounting
The Master's degree program in Finance & Accounting at HWG LU is aimed at all prospective students who have already completed a Bachelor's degree in economics, want to deepen their knowledge and skills in the context of finance and build on relevant prior knowledge in the areas of finance and accounting. In contrast to programs that focus on only one of the two areas, this Master's program integrates the areas of finance and accounting, which are also closely interlinked in practice. The course is taught in small groups of around 25 students per cohort. All lecturers have many years of practical and professional experience.

With a Master's degree in Finance & Accounting, graduates work in demanding specialist and management positions in large and medium-sized companies, financial service providers, auditing or consulting firms, start-ups or as self-employed professionals. The already excellent career prospects are further enhanced by the new European double degree.

The Master's degree course in Finance & Accounting at HWG LU starts every winter semester; applications can be submitted from May. Online info events for prospective students: 23.04./27.05./26.06., each at 5 pm. Further information and Zoom dial-in link at https://www.hwg-lu.de/studium/master/finance-accounting
