Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) honors the long-standing Managing Director of LUKOM Ludwigshafener Kongress- und Marketinggesellschaft mbH with the ceremonial awarding of the University Medal for his special commitment to the interests of the university and its integration into the city society.
The former Managing Director of LUKOM, Michael Cordier, was honored with the University Medal at a ceremony at HWG LU on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. "Mister Ludwigshafen" received the award in recognition of his many years of special commitment to the interests of the university and its integration into the city society: "Michael Cordier was Managing Director of Ludwigshafener Kongress- und Marketinggesellschaft mbH (LUKOM) for ten years and also held numerous honorary positions such as Chairman of the Green Circle, Deputy Chairman of the German Film Festival Support Association and his Supervisory Board mandate in the Joblinge initiative. In all these activities, Michael Cordier was a door opener and mediator for university issues. At the same time, he has made a decisive contribution to improving the perception of HWG LU in the region and locally through his constant work and promotion of the university," emphasized Prof. Dr. Klaus Blettner, Dean of the Marketing and Human Resources Management Department, in his laudatory speech. Blettner went on to say that Michael Cordier, as the central contact person for city marketing, had provided particular professional support to the university's marketing degree programs.
In his welcoming address, University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra also emphasized Cordier's central role for the university and his availability for all matters: whether as the host of the Pfalzbau for the annual graduation ceremonies, as a representative of the city at first semester welcomes and other university events or, most recently, as a protagonist in the university's virtual graduation ceremony. According to Mudra, the fact that the university is represented by a seat on the advisory board of the City of Ludwigshafen's marketing association is also due to Michael Cordier's initiative.
The city's greeting in honor of Michael Cordier was delivered by Mayor Prof. Dr. Cornelia Reifenberg: Michael Cordier had rendered outstanding services as an interface between the city, the economy and the university and with his creativity had ensured that things had developed and evolved. Michael Cordier "made his mark" and "gave the city a face", praised Reifenberg, referring not only to his role as Managing Director of LUKOM, but also to his diverse voluntary work in the service of the city.
The IHK round table also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Michael Cordier's achievements. Its chairman Mathias Berkel described the honoree as a "picture book representative" of the IHK Tischrunde, who perfectly internalizes the three "Cs" - communication, cooperation, coordination.
In his acceptance speech, Michael Cordier emphasized the special relationship with HWG LU and many of its stakeholders and called on them to get involved in society under the motto "take responsibility with enthusiasm in order to achieve something together". The 14th recipient of the University Medal emphasized how important networking had been in and for his work, both with regard to the metropolitan region and his long-standing close relationship with HWG LU - both with the aim of "positioning the vibrant and wonderful city of Ludwigshafen".
Michael Cordier managed a medium-sized retail company in Ludwigshafen for several decades before taking over the management of LUKOM in 2010. He retired as Managing Director on May 31, 2020. The Senate of HWG LU unanimously decided to honor Cordier by awarding him the University Medal at the request of the Marketing and Human Resources Management Department at its meeting on 01.07.2020. The University Medal is traditionally awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society - both as members of the university and externally. Over the past 25 years, the University Medal has been awarded a total of 14 times
