200 students at the Weincampus Neustadt, 301 pupils at the vocational school and around 200 employees at the Breitenweg 71 site in Neustadt an der Weinstraße have been without food since the beginning of the year. From Thursday, October 15, this will come to an end and the students, pupils, staff and guests will be catered for by Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz.
"It is a great stroke of luck for us to be able to offer our services on this beautifully located campus and, of course, a challenge that we are very happy to accept," says Andreas Dubiel, Head of University Catering at Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz, who is looking forward to the new task.
The President of Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, Professor Dr. Peter Mudra, is also very positive about the new partnership: "The approval of the Franco-German Master's degree in the summer and the funding recently made available for the Weincampus as part of the target agreements for the period 2021-2026 have once again made it clear in recent weeks and months that the Weincampus Neustadt is designed for permanence and is constantly developing. The fact that we can now finally provide a canteen for the students, teaching staff and employees on site is another visible sign of this. The canteen also contributes greatly to the campus character of the Weincampus and to the well-being of everyone who studies and works here."
The first official opening day is October 15. The doors to the newly renovated canteen and cafeteria at the Weincampus will open at 8 a.m. sharp. A variety of sandwiches, sweet treats, hot and cold drinks and everything else you need for breakfast will be available for guests. Lunch is then served from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. For students, a lunch menu with soup, salad, main course and dessert costs 2.90 euros. Staff and guests, who are also welcome in the Mensa am Weincampus, eat for 5.20 euros. The doors to the canteen close daily at 2 pm.
The chefs of the Studierendenwerk cook according to a modern menu. Therefore, there is always a vegetarian or vegan dish on offer. No additives are used at all and the focus is on regionality and sustainability when purchasing produce. All hot drinks, for example, are fair trade products, eggs are exclusively free-range and the beef comes from the Odenwald. "Sustainability is very important to us. In addition to our sustainable purchasing strategy, all our hot drinks are served in reusable cups from Recup. We already said goodbye to disposable cups at all locations last year," explains Dubiel.
"With the canteen at the Weincampus, we are opening our seventh canteen in the Southern Palatinate at our fifth location, with Neustadt. We look forward to many satisfied guests," says the head of university catering.
Dr. Hoos, Director of the Dienstleistungszentrum Rheinpfalz (DLR), associates the partnership with an enhancement of his campus in Neustadt: "We are looking forward to working together with the Studierendenwerk, which will provide for our physical well-being on campus in the future. We are hoping for a lively response from the students at the Weincampus, the pupils, DLR staff and numerous guests."
