Regional office of "ArbeiterKind.de" secured for another six years - Alt: "More equal opportunities for working-class children".
For further six years the non-profit organization "ArbeiterKind.de" receives a promotion of the country at a value of annually 50,000 euro. A corresponding target agreement was signed today by Dr. Denis Alt, State Secretary in the Ministry of Science, Further Education and Culture, with the Vice President of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, Professor Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck. The university will receive the state funding for the personnel and infrastructure services that will benefit the state coordination of the initiative.
"In Rhineland-Palatinate, everyone who wants to should be able to study at a university. We want educational opportunities to be fairly distributed. Unfortunately, the likelihood of a child going to university still depends to a large extent on the level of education of the parents. Therefore outstanding goal of the federal state government is to create good education chances for all , said undersecretary of state Dr. Denis old today in Ludwigshafen. "ArbeiterKind.de has already been very successful for three years in supporting prospective students from non-academic families throughout Rhineland-Palatinate in their decision to study. Accompanying this target group is important to us as the state government, so we will support the Rhineland-Palatinate regional office for another six years."
"We are very pleased about the extension of funding for ArbeiterKind.de in Rhineland-Palatinate. This will enable us to provide sustainable on-site support for the volunteers in their commitment and directly support them in encouraging even more students from non-academic families to study and to accompany students from the start of their studies to the start of their careers. Experience has shown that a full-time local coordination office significantly increases the reach, quality and impact of volunteer activities. We want all children in Rhineland-Palatinate to have equally good educational opportunities," emphasizes Katja Urbatsch, founder and managing director of ArbeiterKind.de.
Professor Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity at HWG Ludwigshafen, also expressly welcomes the continuation of the cooperation with Arbeiterkind.de: "The idea behind the initiative of working for more educational justice and equal opportunities is one of the fundamental convictions of our university and is accordingly also stated in our mission statement. We are therefore very pleased that the signing of the target agreements today secures the cooperation with Arbeiterkind and the maintenance of the regional office in Ludwigshafen for the next few years."
The non-profit organization "ArbeiterKind.de" maintains a total of seven local groups in Rhineland-Palatinate in Kaiserslautern, Koblenz, Landau, Ludwigshafen, Mainz, Speyer and Trier. More than 100 volunteer mentors are involved in these groups. The regional office for Rhineland-Palatinate with a state coordinator is located at the university in Ludwigshafen. In 2019, ArbeiterKind.de was able to reach, encourage, and inform over 1,400 prospective and current students through personal conversations at office hours, open meetings, school visits, through emails, and information booths at university information days. This is a doubling compared to 2018.
