Attending BASF's Apprenticeship Day
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, BASF once again opened its doors at the Ludwigshafen site to give young people an insight into working life and training opportunities at BASF. At Gate 11, where the training department provided information at several stands, interested young people and their parents explored the practical presentation of over 30 different training occupations and dual degree programs.
Among other things, there were presentations on the changing professional world in IT and how BASF SE is shaping training in line with the digital transformation. Both the trainers and several trainees were available for discussions. Young people with specific career aspirations had the opportunity to have their applications checked directly on site.
The opportunity to find out more from our IBA and IBAIT students and to talk to those responsible for the degree programs was very popular. Prof. Dr. Gerhard Raab and Kathrin Paul presented the dual degree programs alongside some students:
"International Business Administration (IBA)"(B.Sc.) and "International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT)"(B.Sc.).
The two practice-oriented and internationally oriented degree programs offer an excellent entry into many professional fields through the combination of six semesters, practical phases in a partner company from industry and a stay abroad. BASF SE and the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society have been working together as cooperation partners for more than 25 years.
Interested parties should apply directly to the company (see the pages for IBA & IBAIT). The program starts once a year, on August 1. You can already apply for the IBA and IBAIT degree programs for the start of training in 2023.
Finally abroad again ! - After a two-year break due to the pandemic, IBA students travel to European offices
In May 2022, IBA students were once again able to gain experience abroad in connection with their studies after it had to be canceled for two years due to the pandemic. The students were delighted! The fourth semester of this degree program is scheduled to include stays abroad, starting with six weeks at the HWG in Ludwigshafen, followed by travel. The students gain valuable experience in a wide variety of areas.
IBA students traveled to a location of their partner company within Europe for almost five months. During this time, they worked there and at the same time wrote their international thesis (an academic paper dealing with an international issue in the respective department abroad).
They went to a wide variety of places, in pairs, in threes or alone. The destinations were Oslo (Norway), Brussels (Belgium), Vilnius (Lithuania), Copenhagen (Denmark), Prague (Czech Republic), Bratislava (Slovakia), Vienna (Austria) and Budapest (Hungary). There, the students were able to work in various areas, e.g. Sales, Customer Service, Commercial, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and Credit Management. The tasks were, for example: in HR departments, conducting quick interviews or looking for cooperation opportunities; supporting digital projects, solving problems regarding delivery difficulties, data analysis, product management, but also accompanying the given processes in order to get as many work-related impressions as possible.
The IBA students consistently gave very positive feedback on the countries and cultures. The food, the open-mindedness of the people and the different mindsets on the subject of career and lifestyle were particularly exciting.
We would like to thank the IBA partner companies BASF SE and JT International.
Recognizing Outperformers - UWF Lecture at international lecture series: "How to pick the next Facebook?"
To mark the 50th anniversary of the HWG Ludwigshafen, the International Affairs department and the Transatlantic Institute are offering an international lecture series with selected partner universities. On June 17, 2021, the guest lecture of the University of West Florida (UWF) took place in this series:
Ms. Melissa Brode, as Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Programs of the College for Business at UWF, gave an overview of the long-standing cooperation and especially the orientation of the successful MBA program with the Transatlantic Institute. UWF, which was founded in 1963, currently has five academic colleges and offers a variety of bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. The Transatlantic Institute of the HWG LU, under the leadership of Prof. Gerhard Raab as Managing Director and Managing Director Kathrin Paul, has a long-standing partnership with the UWF, which is kept alive with many reciprocal visits. The lecture series is particularly interesting for students of the BIP program, as it also introduces universities that can be attended as part of the dual BIP program (International Business Administration (IBA), International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) to obtain a US MBA degree.
The introduction of the university was followed by an exciting financial lecture by Prof. Dr. Kwan-Chen Ma (Professor of Finance) on the topic "How to Pick the Next Facebook?" The lecture took a close look at the interplay between business strategy and share performance. In the context of investment banking, the question arises as to whether outperformers can be identified at an early stage so that a favorable investment is still possible. Prof. Ma compared the share price performance of companies listed on the stock exchange or included in major indices with the significance of their innovative business models for the competition and what growth prospects are discernible. Prof. Ma and his students have compiled some interesting criteria. In addition to well-known characteristics such as "disruptive" business ideas or a "first-mover" view of the business model, a "de facto" monopoly and the "bully powerful enough to annoy others" approach are also criteria for discovering the next outperformer. Prof. Dr. Ma used a dialogical presentation style to engage the audience, who contributed a number of comments and questions.
We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Kwan-Chen Ma and Ms. Melissa Brode for their participation in the lecture series and look forward to continuing this format.
The international lecture series is part of the project "EPTRAC - Experience and Passion in Transatlantic Relations and Collaboration" funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of the funding program "IVAC - International Virtual Academic Collaboration". The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports the "IVAC - International Virtual Academic Collaboration" program with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Exchange of experience abroad of IBA and IBAIT students
"Roman vs. Michi - The Duel for the World"
November 13, 2019 - an exciting evening was about to begin. The four-month stays abroad of the dual BIP degree programs International Business Administration (IBA) and International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) had come to an end at the end of September and was now to be revived in a visual way for the subsequent BIP years, company and university representatives and all those involved.
Professor Dr. Edith Rüger-Muck, President of the University for International Affairs and Diversity, welcomed the guests and opened the evening.
Full of new experiences and formative impressions in their luggage, an exciting "duel around the world" started, which, based on Joko and Klaas' TV show, was to take the audience on our journey(s) and provide insights into all destinations.
Few could have staged the two TV heroes better than the two BIPs Michael Marchenko and Roman Trott.
15 exciting travel destinations were presented, all of which contained their very own "challenge" - and 15 times you could look forward to thunderous applause, while you could recognize the only too familiar wanderlust in the faces of the viewers. The following year supported the "duel" by having one team each compete against each other on stage for the two presenters Roman and Michi. There was an additional challenge to master for each continent in order to determine the winning team at the end.
The world tour started in Asia, followed by Europe and finally Central and South America. The presentations for each destination provided numerous insights: facts & figures about the country, a brief introduction to the practical application, do's & dont's and the odd funny anecdote. Here, for example, the audience learned about apparently "married" IBAs who had to protect themselves from the military with their little white lie. The highlight was the video contributions, in which the most impressive moments of the stays were compiled.
As humorously as the presenters led through the evening, the cultural differences that the IBAs had experienced first-hand during their time abroad became tangible in many places: not only in terms of food and travel, but also in the way people interact with each other, at work and in the everyday challenges on site.
The guests gained insights into how to deal with rainy days in Kuala Lumpur, live impressions of the protests in Hong Kong, food experiments in Bangkok, increased security precautions in Mexico, language challenges in China, weekend trips in Europe, small talk rules in Hungary, start-up feeling in Slovakia, flat hierarchies in Belgium, mate tea in Uruguay as well as biodiversity and pura vida in Costa Rica.
The IBAIT degree programs, which completed a trimester at Tongji University in Shanghai and then got to know the Chinese work culture in a six-week internship, rounded off the evening with their own impressive report.
Even though much of the evening revolved around the organization of work-free time abroad, it was clear to see that the topic of work was never neglected and that none of the students were underchallenged.
After the last performance, the score was tallied - victory for Team Roman. After thanking everyone who had made this stay possible, the finale of the evening once again highlighted the end of the study abroad phase - how quickly you can "fly through" a period of time and suddenly the light goes on again - you are back, back in Ludwigshafen.

Exchange of experience abroad of IBA and IBAIT students
"The BIP Cave"
On the evening of November 15, 2018, the time had come again: after a four-month stay in various countries around the world, the BIP International Business Administration (IBA) and International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) degree programs held their exchange of experiences abroad. The students had gained a wealth of experience during their study and practical assignments abroad and now invited them to share their impressions. The representatives of the university, the partner companies and the successor years of the BIP degree programs came together to listen to the reports of the returned globetrotters.
In keeping with long-standing tradition, we were also able to welcome the President of the university, Professor Dr. Mudra, who opened the evening with a motivating speech in the spirit of intercultural exchange. The motto of the event was "Die Höhle der BIPs", a variation on the entertainment show "Die Höhle der Löwen". Presenters Sascha Dietz and Adrian Pohlmann took the guests on a journey with eleven stops along the way. The show's lions were not to be missed either: Three students from each of the subsequent years were allowed on stage and had the task of teasing particularly interesting facts and anecdotes out of the presenters.
The audience found themselves in a veritable jet-set frenzy: from Malaysia they went to Austria - from there the plane took them back to Singapore. Over the course of the evening, they traveled from Europe to Asia and back again. The presentations started with a brief introduction to the countries, followed by a presentation of the practical assignments. The stories were accompanied by videos and numerous pictures. The Degree was a SWOT analysis: strengths and weaknesses were related to work and accommodation, opportunities and threats to the culture of the country.
It was not uncommon for the weather to be mentioned as a threat to the countries, as was the case in Hong Kong and Singapore, where the GDPs had survived a rainy season and extreme heat. In Austria, where the weather had been good all summer, similar to Germany, the student jokingly warned of seas of tourists during the Salzburg Festival. The IBAs in Belgium, on the other hand, had seized the opportunity to get to know Germany's otherwise rarely visited neighboring country from all sides.
The contrasting cultures made it clear that intercultural exchange had indeed been practiced. The presenters from Malaysia reported on the influence of religion on everyday working life and explained that they had taken prayer times into account when scheduling meetings in addition to lunch breaks. In the Netherlands, on the other hand, the car had quickly been swapped for a bicycle and people had enjoyed lively small talk and a more relaxed working culture.
During the break, the next generation, who will be traveling to different parts of the world next year, had the opportunity to meet the BIPs in person.
The IBAIT degree programs, which completed a trimester at Tongji University in Shanghai and then got to know the Chinese work culture in a six-week internship, then continued. This was followed by reports from Spain, Mexico, Hungary and Poland. In addition to the often less strict work culture, such as in Mexico, where the soccer World Cup was celebrated in the company with public viewing, it was noticeable that the BIPs had been entrusted with many independent projects. The conception and implementation of an entire marketing concept in Spain is just one of the many examples that prove that the students were able to surpass themselves not only through intercultural exchange, but also through challenging tasks. In the dialog with the lions, the last insider tips and anecdotes were also revealed: for example, Budapest's cuisine and the country's joy of celebration were praised and it was suggested that the more unknown corners of Warsaw should also be explored.
After about four hours, the evening ended with a slide show that summarized the many facets of the experience. One thing is clear: after all these years, the BIPs have once again succeeded in organizing a varied and impressive evening, so that we can look forward to next year with excitement and anticipation.

Economics Minister Dr. Volker Wissing pleads for more Europe in lecture
"Europe: Challenge and Future" - Economics Minister Dr. Volker Wissing gave a lecture as part of the economics lecture cycle
On November 30, 2018, Dr. Volker Wissing, Deputy Minister-President and Minister of Economic Affairs of Rhineland-Palatinate, was a guest at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society to discuss the topic of "Europe: Challenges and Future" with students from the International Business Administration and International Business Administration and Information Technology degree programs as well as other guest students. The lecture took place as part of the economics lecture cycle of the Chair of Economics and Statistics, to which Prof. Dr. Marcus Sidki regularly invites guest speakers from business and politics to the university on relevant and current economic policy topics.
After a welcoming address by University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra, Sidki introduced the topic and emphasized the importance of economic policy and the need for a closer examination of the further development of the European Union. Economics Minister Dr. Volker Wissing then addressed various issues of European policy: Against the background of the historical development of today's Europe, Wissing outlined in particular the great importance of functioning cooperation between France and Germany. He expressly welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to create a European army. The future of a functioning and widely accepted Europe does not lie in a return to individual nation states, but rather in increased cooperation between the community of states and a deepening of the European Union.
The final round of questions led to a lively and sometimes controversial discussion on various aspects of current European policy.
The format of the economics lecture cycle aims to promote exchange and dialog between the university, the economy and society and to show students how the content they have learned relates to practice.

3rd place for IBA students at the "Tournoi Européen de Gestion
In March of this year, the "Tournoi Européen de Gestion" took place in Strasbourg for the 24th time, in which four female students of the dual study program "International Business Administration (IBA)" of the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen participated and were able to achieve an attractive 3rd place.
The goal this year was to sell different types of boats, taking into account criteria such as payment deadlines, customer satisfaction and marketing measures. The international business game was structured in such a way that, over an entire fiscal year, monthly decisions had to be made by 21 groups from different regions of France as well as Germany on procurement, production, finance, personnel and sales. Each group had the task of setting up its own company with an independent identity. The students then had to act profitably for the fictitious company in a short period of time.
The international business game enabled the students to apply the knowledge they had acquired at university in a practical environment and also to use their English and French skills. The company simulation was designed to be very realistic, so that the students had to read and understand balance sheets, for example, but also keep employee satisfaction at a high level. Due to the tight schedule and business decisions, working under time pressure was also trained.
For the four students Anna-Lena Gläßgen, Alicia Schünemann, Melina Thiel and Lisa Weppner, this international competition offered the opportunity to make new contacts with French and German students. "All in all, the two days in Strasbourg were an educational experience that we will certainly keep in very good memory," they summed up. Their special thanks also go to Prof. Dr. R. Mohr for the comprehensive supervision during the two days of the competition.
"Wilhelm is looking for friends!" - Innovative IBA students create media campaign for the young sponsoring group of the Wilhelm-Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen
"Factory dirt that has been forced to become a city", said the famous philosopher Ernst Bloch himself about his native city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The industrial city in the heart of the Rhine-Neckar metropolis defies its image with a flourishing urban art scene. The Wilhelm-Hack Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art in particular recognized this trend early on and has established itself as the nucleus of the new scene with numerous offerings. In spring 2017, a seminar project by students on the intensive dual study course International Business Administration (IBA) gave rise to the young support group "Wilhelms Freunde", a committed group of people aged between 20 and 35. Together, they organize multimedia and social events where art does not always have to take center stage. The long-term goals are to be active supporters of the Wilhelm-Hack Museum and to create a common space for young people from Ludwigshafen and the surrounding area who are interested in art.
After the initial founding euphoria, the Wilhelms Freunde face a problem that, at least in its basic features, can also be projected onto other organizations: The number of actual active members is stagnating and preventing further growth. However, this is absolutely necessary in order to expand its independence and secure its ability to act in the long term.
Four students tackled this problem in the winter semester 2017/18 as part of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Raab's advanced seminar "Neuroeconomics and Customer Behavior". They developed a cross-media advertising concept entitled "Willi sucht Freunde!" (Willi is looking for friends!), which communicates this catchy guiding principle across several channels in parallel.
Based on an analysis of the current membership situation and discussions with the management team of "Wilhelms Freunde", common goals were developed and appropriate measures were derived.
In addition to the optimization of the website and the development of new event concepts, the publication of a brochure was also proposed with the aim of addressing young Ludwigshafen residents in particular who are new to Ludwigshafen and have so far only known the grey sides of the industrial city. The "Willi sagt Willkommen" brochure is therefore aimed primarily at students at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society as well as young professionals at local companies, who are exactly the target group. The brochure contains useful everyday tips about Ludwigshafen, provides information about art, culture and sports activities and offers information about restaurants and the city's nightlife. A special highlight and particularly interesting for non-Palatinate residents is the "Palatinate - German" language course, which is also included.
In 2018, the "Wilhelms Freunde" want to implement the concept of the cross-media advertising campaign and gain at least ten new and active members.

We are looking forward to our future cooperation!
Award for IBA female students in Strasbourg
At the "23ème Tournoi Européen de Gestion", four students from the International Business Administration (IBA) course at the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences came 3rd in the "Communication" competence area.
The competition, which takes place annually in Strasbourg, was attended by 18 teams, each with four members from different regions of Germany and France. As part of a business game, their task was to run a virtual T-shirt company as profitably as possible. A market was simulated over a period of 12 months. The teams had to make decisions for the further strategy for each business month, which included, for example, considerations regarding the selection of suppliers, as well as materials and pricing strategy. The simulation was divided into five competence areas: communication, marketing, finance, profitability and overall strategy, for each of which the best four teams were awarded prizes.
The business game thus provided a very good opportunity to apply and further deepen theoretical knowledge in a practical environment. The stay in Strasbourg also gave the four students Daniela Ceranski, Melis Metin, Kathrin Schneider and Nina Friese the chance to exchange ideas with other participants , which also contributed to making the project a very special experience for them.
Exchange of experiences abroad IBA and IBAIT students: Setting out into the world
At this year's exchange abroad, the students of the BIP degree programs, International Business Administration (IBA) and International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) at Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, presented themselves as cosmopolitan and international. On November 17, 2016, the BIP class of 2014 invited students to an exchange of experiences abroad in the auditorium of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society. The supervisors of the partner companies and several professors from the university were also present. As a special guest, the students were able to welcome the President of the university, Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra, who emphasized in his welcoming speech the particular importance of international experience as part of their studies and its significance for the personal development of students. He himself reported on his numerous stays abroad, during which he was able to make international contacts. In his speech, President Prof. Dr. Mudra also emphasized that the students had travelled the world both as representatives of the companies and as representatives of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society.
In the following program "BIP Total", the students were able to report on their global stations as guests of the presenters, Philip Röder and Maximilian Schreiber. As in previous years, the majority of the dual study program students went to Asia. The Asian destinations were China, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The IBAIT degree programs first went to Shanghai, where they were the only group to spend not only a practical phase, but also a semester abroad at Tongji University. Thanks to Chinese lessons at the university, all IBAITs were able to cope with everyday life in China without any problems. In addition to the IBAITs, two courageous IBAs also ventured to China for the first time and went to Nanjing, where they appeared on a Chinese TV show as a highlight. In Kuala Lumpur, IBA student Jessica Orth was not afraid to try the typical local dish nasi lemak.
Some students were also drawn to countries not too far away this year, such as France, Turkey and Spain. The journey continued via Chile to Mexico and finally to the USA. Of course, in addition to cultural experiences, study and work were also on the agenda for all students. For example, the IBA and IBAIT degree programs reported on their practical assignments and tasks in the departments abroad, which differed from country to country. A highlight of the international experience exchange is the travel tips with numerous impressions in the form of pictures and videos from the individual destinations, which were also a must this year. Unadulterated impressions of the sights of all regions were shown: from dream beaches to temples and deserts to impressive skylines. During the approximately three-hour program, the guests had the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting facts about the countries and sometimes get a little wanderlust. The information was particularly interesting for the following year's students, as they will also be going abroad in a few months' time.

Exchange of experience abroad IBA and IBAIT students: from Ludwigshafen to the world - dual students on new paths
International and cosmopolitan - this is how the dual students of the International Business Administration (IBA) and International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) degree programs at Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society presented themselves. The class of 2013 invited to an exchange of experiences abroad in the auditorium of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society. Representatives of the partner companies and professors were also present. In his welcoming speech, Professor Dr. Andreas Gissel, Vice President for International Affairs at the university, emphasized the influence of visits abroad on the students' personal development. In his usual competent and entertaining manner, he spoke about the importance of international contacts, which he himself had already made during numerous stays abroad. In the following "Duel around the World", the students reported on their global stations, in which various "challenges" were also set - one country challenges another with an assignment. For example, the students in Chile had to recite a love poem by Pablo Neruda in public. The journey took them via Chile to the USA, then on to Spain and Switzerland. The majority of students on the dual degree programs IBA and IBAIT were in Asia, namely in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Shanghai. The program was also varied according to the countries - Tim Dreisbach from Singapore presented himself on stage in a traditional robe, while Tatjana Treuke in Geneva showed no fear of the intense smell of cheese. Of course, work and studies were also on the agenda alongside the "challenges" and cultural aspects. The students reported on their practical assignments in the local departments, which varied greatly depending on the country. The IBAITs were the only group to spend not only an internship abroad, but also a semester abroad: at Tongji University in Shanghai, they spent a semester getting to know Chinese university life at first hand.
Travel tips from the individual countries, directly from insiders so to speak, are an annual highlight of the international experience exchanges. Once again this year, numerous pictures provided genuine impressions of the sights of each region: from the jungle in Malaysia to Indonesian temples or the desert in Chile. In around three hours, the guests were able to take away some interesting facts from the exchange. Not so uninteresting for many of them, after all, the next class will be going abroad in a few months' time. By the way: there was no final winner of the "challenges" in the "duel around the world" - any of the dual students from the 2013 cohort who had been abroad could only win...

Visiting professor William L. Murray from San Francisco honored with university medal
On October 21, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society honored US-American Professor William L. Murray with the University Medal. At the suggestion of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Raab and Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Beißner from the Department of Marketing and Human Resource Management, it honored Murray's outstanding achievements as a long-standing guest lecturer and his special commitment to education. The finance expert was the first visiting lecturer at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, where he gave lectures on finance from 1997 to 2013, first on the International Business Administration (IBA) degree program, then from 2005 on the International Business Administration (IBA) program and from 2010 on the International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) program as a visiting professor. Murray was also involved in education in the MBA program of the Transatlantic Institute in cooperation with the University of West Florida in Pensacola. From 1978 until his official retirement, he taught as a full professor at the University of San Francisco in the USA. He also worked as an independent consultant in the fields of corporate planning and financial strategy and taught as a visiting professor at other universities such as the University of California, Berkeley and the University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, China.
Murray traveled from the USA with family and friends to attend the award ceremony on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society. Some of his former students also made sure they were there. "With the award of the University Medal, we want to say thank you and pay tribute to a man who has decisively advanced the internationality of our education and for whom his profession is also a vocation," said University President Professor Dr. Peter Mudra. "The number of air miles alone that William Murray has covered in the service of his visiting professorship in Ludwigshafen is so high that he should easily be awarded the status of a senator at Lufthansa," joked Professor Dr. Andreas Gissel, Vice President for International Affairs, in his laudatory speech, adding: "Not to mention the many lessons he has given here over the last 17 years. Murray - or Bill, as he was quickly nicknamed by his students - started here at the university when Bill Clinton was in his first term of office in the USA, Helmut Kohl was Chancellor in Germany and Jürgen Kliensmann was still actively playing for the German national soccer team." The second laudator, Professor Dr. Karl-Heinz Beißner, head of the BIP degree programs, also emphasized the long period of good cooperation with Professor Murray and recalled the beginnings with a wink - the first contact in 1995 in San Francisco and the first lectures in 1996 in Ludwigshafen. "That was intercultural and administrative training for both of us in terms of German administration," Beißner recalled, referring to questions about salaries and social security that had to be clarified at the beginning. "I would like to thank William Murray for his many years of friendship, support and inspiration. With his enthusiasm, he was and is a role model for me in education," said Beißner.
In his acceptance speech, Professor William Murray also looked back with joy and pride on "the amazing time" of his teaching career in Ludwigshafen and the Business and International Program (BIP): "Since I am the longest serving BiP guest professor it is my unique opportunity to make some comments about the development of the program and its students over the years. What a joy it has been to get to know these students and follow along with them as their careers and lives unfold! This is an excellent program; well-designed and extremely well managed. I am very proud to tell my colleagues worldwide of my association with it. What a joy it was each year to get to return to my second home, meet the new (to me) class, get to know them, and hear of the successes of those alumni that keep in touch."
The supporting program specially organized for Murray around the official medal ceremony also testifies to the great bond between the university and its first visiting professor: Professor Murray and his guests were welcomed by the BIP degree programs team with a "Welcome Reception" in Turmstraße before the award ceremony and invited to a wine tastingon the university's wine campus in Neustadt an der Weinstraße after the official part. The celebrations finally came to a fitting Degree in a restaurant in the Palatinate. Here, Professor Dr. Gerhard Raab (Head of the IBA and IBAIT courses) paid tribute to the many years of good cooperation with Professor Murray, which has now grown into a good and warm friendship. Bill Murray was and will always remain an integral part of the BIP team.

First semester welcome of the dual study programs IBA and IBAIT
On August 27, 2015, the induction day for the "new" students of the dual and international degree programs International Business Administration (IBA) and International Business Administration and Information Technology (IBAIT) took place at Turmstraße 8 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The introductory event offers important information about the cooperating companies and experience reports from graduates, as well as the opportunity for a lively exchange between lecturers, students and company representatives. In addition to BASF SE, BASF Business-Services GmbH, SAP SE, SIMONA AG, EM-Technik GmbH and JTI (Japan Tobacco International), the new partner companies - Berrang GmbH, Sensus GmbH and Parker Hannifin Corporation - are among the cooperation partners for the BIP 2015 cohort.
The afternoon began with a welcome to the participants by the head of the course, Prof. Dr. Raab. This was followed by presentations of the companies by the students. This gave everyone an interesting first insight into the partner companies and the students' areas of responsibility.
Following the presentations, a graduate of the IBA degree programs and a graduate of the IBAIT degree program introduced themselves. They spoke about topics that are particularly relevant at the beginning of a degree course: Why was the BIP program chosen at that time? What expectations/hopes, and possibly also concerns, were there at the beginning of the program and during the course of the program? How was the transition from A-levels to university perceived or mastered? How do you look back on your studies today? How was the entry into professional life? An IBAIT graduate reported on a wide range of experiences during his studies and an interesting time during the six-month stays abroad in China, which is compulsory for IBAIT degree programs. A stays abroad in a branch office abroad is also compulsory in the IBA degree programs. The graduates' prospects for further career steps were also of particular interest. For example, one former IBA student has already completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has now found an ideal start at his partner company, BASF SE. A graduate of BASF SE has opted for the part-time Master of Business Administration at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, which starts in January 2016. She completed her Bachelor's degree in mid-August 2015 and was able to start her first position directly at BASF SE in the Packaging Purchasing department. After completing his master's degree and gaining a few years of professional experience, a former IBAIT student is aiming for a doctorate in cooperation with his partner company, SAP SE.
The testimonials clearly showed that the international nature of the degree programs provides a wide range of insights into different cultures. The visiting professors from different parts of the world, whose courses are held in English, also make a valuable contribution to this. It is also clear from the reports that the dual and international degree programs IBA and IBAIT offer an optimal combination of theory and practice.
The successful and interesting event came to a pleasant conclusion with a barbecue in the evening.
Student of the dual study program IBA of the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen participates in the Go & See Tour
"The Tesla is a fascinating machine".
By Andreas Römer: June 29, 2015
Alex Schurig has prevailed in the application procedures: he is the Tesla driver on this year's Go & See Tour and will be touring innovative RWE sites with pioneering energy projects. For the 22-year-old, the 3,000-kilometer tour is an exciting Degree for his dual training at RWE Deutschland. We spoke to him before the start of the tour.
team: Why did you apply to be a driver for the Go & See Tour?
Alex: A special incentive for me was, of course, the Tesla! Not everyone gets the opportunity to drive a premium-class electric car all over Europe for two weeks. I'm really looking forward to it, because the Tesla really is a fascinating machine! I also applied because I'm curious about RWE's Europe-wide energy projects. I've already worked at international sites during my dual training, but I think there's still a lot to see.
team:The Tesla has an electric drive, is highly motorized with 420 hp and weighs 2.1 tons - you don't drive a car like that every day. Nervous?
Alex: Of course you need a bit of driving experience before you can take the Tesla on a longer tour. That's why I completed intensive driving safety training. Safety comes first: Alex prepared for the tour with driving training
team: Was there a moment during training when you had a lot of respect for the Tesla?
Alex: Definitely! Part of the training was an emergency stop at 50 km/h on a wet road. You really have to be careful there! But I developed a good feel for the Tesla through such exercises. I now feel well prepared for my trip through Europe.
team: Are you going on tour all by yourself?
Alex: No, I'm accompanied by Dennis, who is currently a working student at RWE. He will be there with a camera and video camera throughout the tour and will report live. I'm sure there will be lots of exciting pictures and clips. He is studying film directing at a media university in Munich and is therefore ideally suited to this task. Together, we will then talk about our tour on the Go & See blog.
team:Which stops on the tour are you looking forward to the most?
Alex: Krakow and Warsaw - those are the two stops I'm particularly looking forward to. Because the focus there is on solar energy.
team:Why do you find the topic of solar energy so interesting?
Alex: Because there is still so much potential in the field of solar energy for advancing the energy transition. It will certainly be exciting to find out on the tour what is still possible in terms of solar energy and what awaits us in the future. I am convinced that solar energy in particular, in combination with electric cars, is a key technology for our energy future.
team:Why is it right and important to do a Go & See Tour?
Alex: A lot more is happening at RWE sites across Europe when it comes to the future of energy than you know from your own small circle at home. That's why the Go & See Tour is right and important. It's a great way to publicize the exciting projects of the energy transition - directly from where the action is, that's what makes the tour so special.
