Buddy Program
We at LUBS welcome new exchange students with our buddy program to help you get settled in your new environment. We want you to feel at home at your new university and in your new country and to get aquainted with German mentality, habits and everyday life. Our buddies will make life and studies easier for you, because they will help you with almost anything that might be a challenge for you: understanding public transport, going grocery shopping with no or little German language skills, paying the rent, getting to know the university... etc.
Who and what is a buddy?
Buddies are volunteer students at LUBS who are interested in international contact. They are experienced students taking care of new exchange students, accompanying and supporting them, especially in their first weeks at LUBS.
If you would like to be accompanied by a buddy, please contact Johanna Weber.
What are the duties of a buddy?
The focus is on very practical things such as picking you up from the train station, finding your way around Ludwigshafen and the surrounding area, introducing the university, helping you with official matters (e.g. opening a bank account, immigration office, etc.).
There will be a meeting in January or July to discuss all questions and tasks. (Date to be announced).
What can I gain from the program?
Participation as a Buddy is voluntary and is not remunerated. For your voluntary commitment and participation in the intercultural training, which is obligatory for all buddies, you will receive a buddy certificate at the end of your activity.
How can I participate in the Buddy Program?
Please register no later than June 15 (for the winter semester) or January 15 (for the summer semester) by emailing johanna.weber@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de with your name, cell phone number, and course of study.
When does it start?
Usually, new exchange students arrive one week before the introduction week - i.e. early/mid-March or early/mid-September.
