In the summer semester of 2024, students on the Master's degree course in Information Systems with a focus on Data Science & Consulting at HWG LU once again solved challenging practical problems in the "Design Thinking" course.
At the final event, the representatives of the participating companies were delighted. This time, Camelot Management Consultants, DG-Nexolution, Münch Chemie and MVV Regioplan took part. The feedback from the companies perfectly expressed the potential added value of the design thinking methodology: "Very good, fresh view from the outside, which made us realize that our original solution idea would never have worked"; "It's not a question of if, but only a question of resources to implement the great prototypes in our company". "Extremely good insights into the customer's needs and requirements - and we will definitely present our offer to customer xyz(remote company) as soon as possible."
Design thinking is a user-centered and iterative-experimental approach to finding creative solutions to complex problems. Teams of students spend an entire semester working through all phases of the process according to a clear roadmap, learning the techniques and applying them directly at the companies - with coaching support from course leader Prof. Dr. Martin Selchert. The companies praised not only the results, but also the consistently very well-organized and professional cooperation between the student teams and the contact persons at the companies. For the students, the most important experience is that the techniques taught in the events and discussed using examples really work in practice: from the idea to the prototype.
If you as a company are interested in taking part in the Design Thinking Challenge 2025, please contact the course leader Prof. Dr. Martin Selchert at martin.selchert@hwg-lu.de: We look forward to a mutually beneficial collaboration!
