Various drives are available in our PC rooms. Some drives/directories allow read-only access, while others are also used for personal data storage.
Where exactly can you save data?
The local drive C: only offers limited access. For temporary files and work materials, we recommend the C:\Student directory. Please note, however, that this data is visible and accessible to subsequent users. Deleted files initially end up in the recycle bin of the operating system and must be permanently deleted there.
Each user has a home directory on the network drive Z:. Up to 400 MB of files can be stored here. The directory is located on a central server that is assigned to all home directories and is automatically connected to a PC in the domain when the user logs on. The storage space is limited by a quota and cannot be exceeded. Should this nevertheless happen, we reserve the right to delete some of your data.
Students do not have network drives for sharing data with each other. Data exchange is only possible via USB storage devices, email or cloud storage services. Please note, however, that USB sticks with defects can usually lose all data. You should always save data privately on a hard disk as a backup copy.
Materials for computer lessons are provided on the M: drive.
Lecturers can make central materials available in the M:\Student subdirectory, whereby you only have read-only access.
External access
It is possible to connect to the M: and Z: drives from home. You can find instructions here.
For exams
Students do not use their own account during exams. The computers are registered in advance with a special exam account. This account is connected to the drive P:\ (exam), which is bound to the respective computer. This is where assignments are provided or exam results are saved to be corrected.
In some cases, you will need to edit files in the C:\Student directory. At the end of the exam, these files must then be copied to the P:\ drive, overwriting the original file if necessary.
Note: Save your work results regularly. When copying/moving files, you should read the context menus carefully before clicking on "OK". If results have not been saved in the P: drive at the end of the exam, they are considered "not submitted" and cannot be assessed. This will affect whether the exam section is passed, regardless of whether this was accidental, intentional or due to a malfunction.
Settings on the desktop/user profile
We use central sample profiles that are deleted after logging out. Therefore, do not save important data on the desktop or in "My Documents", as this will be lost after logging out.
