Automatic forwarding of e-mails is disabled

On September 14, 2023, the automatic forwarding of emails to external email addresses will be deactivated.

The reasons for this change are the increased requirements for the protection of your personal emails. Automatic forwarding can cause confidential e-mails addressed to you to be automatically forwarded to external e-mail service providers, even though these service providers are not subject to European data protection law. This is not permitted for data protection reasons.

One example of this is examination results that are automatically forwarded to private e-mail addresses. In addition, such forwardings have repeatedly led to communication problems and missed deadlines in the past, which were caused by full private mailboxes, among other things.

If your email forwarding is based on self-created regulations, this will also no longer work. Of course, it is still possible to forward emails manually to external email addresses. Please make sure that confidential information sent to you is kept secure and confidential even when forwarded to external addresses.

You can already deactivate automatic e-mail forwarding yourself.

  1. Log into your JGU account with your user name and password.
  2. Under My AccountCommunication Data you will find the option Email Forwarding.
  3. Click on it, delete the displayed e-mail and confirm the empty address field with Save.
  4. This deletes the forwarding.
