Content & procedure

In the summer semester, the group of lateral entrants starts an orientation semester to refresh and acquire new nursing and (nursing) scientific knowledge. From the winter semester onwards, further studies take place together with the 5th semester of nursing (B.Sc.).

Study organization in the shortened degree programs

  • The alternation of theory and practical phases can be taken from the study plan for the entire course of study before the start of the course, so that the compulsory practical phases can be completed as part of regular (part-time) employment. Alternatively, practical hours can also be completed in the form of internships. Please note that attendance is compulsory in some courses and that courses must be prepared and followed up during the lecture period.
  • The design of the practical phases and practical tasks is based on the existing professional admission/professional experience, so that no practical guidance/practical supervision takes place in the nursing setting. Practical support by education staff at the university (to reflect on and support the transfer of theory/practice) takes place in the HWG skills and simulation center or online. In principle, employment is possible in all nursing settings; the area/location may have to be changed for the practical phase in the elective module (practical guide/wound expert ICW).
  • The planning, organization and administration of the practical phases takes place digitally. Students, practice facilities and the HWG use the QUESAP software for this purpose.
  • Certified nurses take the professional examinations (of fellow students studying for primary qualifications in the winter/summer semester) as regular module examinations. The practical module examination takes place in the Skills and Simulation Center. The academic degree "Bachelor of Science" is awarded upon successful completion of the course. This is used with the professional title already acquired.
  • The nursing training is credited to the modules of the first 3 semesters to the extent of 90 ECTS, further qualifications (up to max. 105 ECTS) can be examined for crediting on application after commencement of the course.

You can find a detailed description of all topics and contents of the shortened course in our module handbooks: Module handbook for lateral entry (1st semester) & module handbook Nursing (B.Sc.) (semesters 2 - 4 or semesters 5 - 7).

The study plan (here exemplary for the summer semester 2024) provides information on the alternation of theoretical and practical phases and the Special Examination Regulations (SPO) provide an overview of the module examinations. All documents can also be found in the download area at the bottom of this page.
