Causes of gender homogeneity in degree programs at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society

Project management:Prof. Dr. Elke Raum
Project duration:06/2014 - 12/2014
Project description:

According to the current equality/women's promotion plan, the proportion of female students at the university was 52% overall in the 2012 summer semester. However, when looking at the degree programs in detail, a significant number of both Bachelor's and Master's degree programs with a considerable over- or under-representation of male or female students are noticeable. Bachelor's degree courses with a significant underrepresentation of female students are, for example, logistics or business informatics. An underrepresentation of male students can be found, for example, in the nursing and social studies courses or the International Human Resource Management and Organization course.
The aim of the project applied for here is to build on the AGFRA concept "Gender heterogeneity in degree programs" to analyze the causes of gender homogeneity in certain degree programs and to derive specific recommendations for action.
The knowledge gained can be incorporated into reaccreditation procedures for existing degree programs or accreditation procedures for new degree programs and contribute to an increase in gender heterogeneity in gender-homogeneous degree programs.
