As part of the Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorship for Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate, psychologist Dr. Monika Henn supported the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare with three public lectures and two teaching seminars in the winter semester 2021/2022. Under the titles "Empowerment", "Encouragement" and "Responsiveness", Henn's lecture series focused in particular on female managers and the topic of professional communication.
In the winter semester 2021/2022, Dr. Monika Henn holds the international and interdisciplinary Klara Marie Fassbinder Visiting Professorshipfor Women's and Gender Studies Rhineland-Palatinate and supports the courses offered at the Department of Management, Controlling, HealthCare with three public lectures and two accompanying courses on the topics of "Women and Leadership" and "Professional Communication". The qualified psychologist and lawyer specializing in employment law, who also works as a business coach for female managers in the consulting company she co-founded, took a closer look at the differences between male and female leadership, the characteristics of female and male managers, the compatibility of work and family life and the factors for successful professional communication.
Dr. Monika Henn gave her inaugural lecture to an audience of over 100 interested listeners on the topic of "Empowerment: personality factors as career drivers - recognizing and developing". Drawing on her study on women in leadership positions, she highlighted the characteristics of female managers compared to male managers and women without leadership ambitions. In addition to a strong intrinsic motivation to lead, team orientation and flexibility were the outstanding characteristics, explained Henn.
In the second presentation"Encouragement: career planning with work-life balance", Henn looked at the prerequisites and obstacles for female careers and advocated the more realistic model of "work-life integration" instead of "work-life balance". She advised the guests to make clear agreements in their partnerships and families and to organize their everyday lives well in order to successfully combine career and family care responsibilities. Making work locations and working hours more flexible is also very important here, according to Henn.
The third lecture dealt with the topic of "Responsiveness: women's skills in leadership and professional communication". In it, Henn recommended an "agile" management style adapted to the situation and the respective employees, which takes into account the "maturity level" and personality of the employee as well as the nature of the task and the expectations of their own professional environment. "It is also important for managers to constantly reflect critically on their own behavior and communication and to obtain feedback from others," says Henn. It is also crucial for managers to behave loyally towards their own superiors and the company.
Dr. Monika Henn, born in 1963, studied psychology and law at the University of Regensburg from 1983 to 1988. After working as a management trainer at Digital Equipment Corporation (now Hewlett Packard) and HR manager at the Rodenstock Group and Fiducia & GAD IT AG, Henn completed her doctorate at the University of Regensburg in 2004-2008 under Prof. Dr. Marianne Hammerl († 2008) on the topic: Women and leadership: What characterizes women in management positions? At the same time, she co-founded the consulting firm Henn Consulting in 2005. Dr. Monika Henn has published numerous articles on career development, leadership issues and gender-equitable leadership. Her book "Die Kunst des Aufstiegs - Was Frauen in Führungspositionen kennzeichnen" is considered a standard work on the subject of "women and leadership".
