The 22nd European Accountancy Week (EAW) took place again - after a year's break due to the pandemic - this time in Vilnius/Lithuania. 12 nations with 50 students and 17 professors were represented. The week is organized by the European university network ETAP - European Taxation and Accounting in Practice.
Axel Kihm, Professor of Business Administration, in particular Financial Accounting, and Katharina Notheis, Program Manager and responsible for international affairs at Department I, were able to travel to Vilnius University from 7 to 12 March 2022 thanks to the EU funding program "Erasmus +", which primarily promotes bilateral exchange between partner universities. They were accompanied by nine motivated students, representing one of the largest student groups among the participating nations.
The aim of the EAW is to deal with the various problems of international accounting ("IAS/IFRS"). The aim is to give students a feel for the international dimension of business in a case study-oriented manner. In daily workshops, the teams of professors taught the theoretical basics of international accounting in the subject blocks Assets, Liabilities, Equity & Financial Analysis. The international working groups then worked on case studies, which required specialist knowledge, communication skills and, above all, teamwork!
Of course, there were also plenty of cultural events during the week. At the traditional and extremely popular "Tasting activity", specialties from the various partner countries were served up and the language and intercultural barriers literally melted away. The event was accompanied by traditional Lithuanian music and a folk dance - which each of the participants had certainly danced at least once that evening. The program also included a guided tour of the beautiful old town of Vilnius, excursions to the famous Trakai Castle and a visit to one of Lithuania's oldest vodka distilleries with a tasting session. The week flew by and at the "Closing Ceremony" all participants were able to review the week once again with lots of great pictures in the final film
. Beautiful memories with quotes, awards for e.g. "Best Presentation" or "Best Team Spirit" and wonderful memories are permanently recorded.
And if we have piqued your interest and you would like to gain similar experiences, then why not register for the next week - next year we are going to Kortrijk/Belgium! An information event is planned for the beginning of the winter semester 2022/23.
