Since 2004, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has offered lectures for children throughout the state in order to introduce schoolchildren aged 8 to 12 to science in a child-friendly way. The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society has been a part of the program since the beginning and organizes children's university lectures directly at the university every semester.
The latest spin-off of the free series of events on June 28, 2023, focused on an extremely practical topic: "Wounds - a phenomenon of life." Professor Dr. Armin Leibig and Anika Werner introduced the children to the exciting world of first aid.
With the help of a cut apple, symbolic of a wound, the organizers explained to the young participants in a practical way what to look out for in injuries and how to treat them properly. By spreading chocolate sprinkles in the wound, the children were playfully made aware of the danger of infection by bacteria and the importance of cleaning wounds. Equipped with compresses and bandages, the children were then able to apply what they had learned and thus internalize the most important aspects of wound care.
All participants agreed that the last event of the semester was a complete success. The knowledge acquired will help the children to deal better with injuries in everyday life and to assess possible risks correctly.
The Children's University would like to thank all those involved for their commitment and is already looking forward to the coming semesters, in which exciting topics will again be offered to the inquisitive participants.
