In September 2023, a new Bachelor's degree program in Business Psychology (B. Sc.) will start at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU). In six semesters, the degree programs combines a solid business education with application-oriented psychological knowledge and comprehensive methodological training. In the 5th semester, students spend a semester abroad or in an internship. They also have access to the university's behavioral science laboratory with its wide range of experimental possibilities and high-performance technology. The course concludes with a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.). Prospective students can apply from the end of May until mid-July 2023 for the winter semester 2023/2024.
"According to our observations, business psychologists are currently in high demand on the market, especially in the economic powerhouse of the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar. So far, however, there are only private universities in the area that offer business psychology courses for not inconsiderable tuition fees. We are therefore the first state university in Rhineland-Palatinate to offer business psychology. This gives us a clear unique selling point in the region and, thanks to our long-standing research focus on consumer behavior and neuroeconomics, we also have a great deal of scientific expertise in-house," says Prof. Dr. Klaus Blettner, Dean of the Marketing and Human Resource Management Department, where the degree programs in business psychology will be based in the future. "In addition to practical relevance, the focus of our courses will be on marketing and personnel psychology, supplemented by organizational psychology, in line with the structure of our Department. Our future graduates will therefore have a wide range of applications and very good chances of starting their careers quickly," adds Prof. Dr. Gerhard Raab, acting head of the degree program and head of the behavioral science research laboratory.
There are many opportunities for business psychologists in companies, organizations and agencies. For example, graduates can cover the entire spectrum in the HR or marketing sector. This includes personnel selection and personnel development, but also organizational development with the topics of change management and communication. Trained business psychologists are also in great demand in media companies such as marketing and advertising agencies and in market and opinion research.
Prospective students should have an Abitur or Fachhochschulreife, an interest in economic contexts and psychology as well as enthusiasm for the question of how human behavior can be recorded, analyzed and explained in economic contexts.
