Press release of the MWG RLP from 16.08.2022
The state is funding the establishment of a skills and simulation center at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society with 762,000 euros. The center will be used for both the Bachelor's degree course in Midwifery Science and the new Bachelor's degree course in Nursing, which is due to start in the coming winter semester 2022/2023. "We are once again investing in high-quality degree programs in midwifery and nursing. By equipping them with state-of-the-art technology, we are creating very good conditions for the two degree programs and at the same time making an important contribution to high-quality healthcare in Rhineland-Palatinate. I hope that many young people will continue to choose Ludwigshafen as a place to study and that the upcoming nursing degree course will enjoy the same high demand as is already the case in midwifery," said State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Health, Dr. Denis Alt.
"The establishment of the Skills and Simulation Centre at our central campus is another milestone in the establishment of Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences as a healthcare focus of the state and makes a decisive contribution to quality assurance in the academization of healthcare professions. Here, our students can train the practical aspects of midwifery and nursing in a protected space and relate them to the knowledge they have learned in theory - this not only gives them confidence, but also makes a decisive contribution to patient safety and, in a broader sense, to the professionalization of the healthcare professions," said a delighted University President Prof. Dr. Gunther Piller.
Learning in the Skills and Simulation Center means simulating complex situations from professional midwifery and nursing practice in a realistic way. Using simulation equipment and demonstration models, students practise practical skills and combine their theoretical and practical knowledge. They can practise in a protected learning environment before they come into contact with patients in hospitals during the practical part of their studies.
"There is no greater miracle than the birth of a new human being. The path to this and the time afterwards often requires intensive support from professional midwives, who provide encouragement, strength and support where necessary. We want to do all we can in the state to offer young people the opportunity to take up the profession of midwife and to create the conditions at universities for a sound academic education. Rhineland-Palatinate has already set clear budgetary priorities for the expansion of healthcare courses in recent years. New staff positions and material resources have been made available to the relevant universities, not only for academization in midwifery, but also in nursing," said Denis Alt. With courses on offer in Mainz, Ludwigshafen and Trier, prospective students in Rhineland-Palatinate can choose from a wide range of courses, from Bachelor's and Master's degrees to doctorates.
