Funding opportunities for international students
The DAAD Prize
The DAAD Prize is awarded annually to international students through the international sections of German universities - at HWG LU 2021 for the 25th time. "In the 25-year history of the DAAD awards at our university, we have been able to honor many different personalities and get to know many individual destinies - but what all of the award recipients have in common is their distinctive perseverance and commitment, combined with confidence and openness to the world," says Kerstin Gallenstein, Head of the International Office at HWG LU.

What is a scholarship? What is expected of you?
Scholarships can help you finance your studies, as you receive financial support that you do not have to pay back. In addition to financial support, a scholarship usually also includes non-material support, for example, by allowing you to participate in conferences, workshops, seminars or other events.
As "consideration" for the scholarship awarded, scholarship holders are usually expected to participate in seminars or courses offered by the scholarship provider and also to prepare reports (for example, after a semester abroad).
In addition, fellows are expected to share the ideals and values of the fellowship provider and to represent them to the outside world in the broadest sense, depending, of course, on the fellowship provider in question: on the one hand, political foundations with close party ties are generally expected to share their political ideals. On the other hand, the foundations that are close to the company expect a connection or relationship to the respective company, for example through early activities in the company as part of an apprenticeship or internship. These requirements at least improve the chances of success in obtaining the respective scholarship.
In addition to good grades and a particular talent or aptitude for the chosen field of study, political and social commitment is usually an important criterion according to which scholarships are awarded. However, it is no longer only highly gifted high school graduates who receive scholarships from the state, foundations and the business community.
It is worthwhile for you to take a close look at which conditions are attached to the awarding of a scholarship.
In the following table you will find an overview of scholarship providers who award scholarships to foreign students at German universities.
The list of scholarship programs mentioned below is not necessarily complete. For more detailed information on scholarships, please contact the respective scholarship provider.
