Questions and answers about BAföG

In general, all students (including foreign students) are entitled to BAföG under certain conditions. At the start of the bachelor's degree program, applicants must not yet have reached the age of 45.

The current maximum rate is 992 euros.

You can simply submit the application to the BAföG office at our university.

The initial application can be submitted directly after successful enrollment. The repeat application should be submitted approximately three months before the end of the current BWZ.
An informal application can also be submitted within this period.

In general, the limits mentioned in point 1 apply, but there are some exceptions, for example for students

  • on the second educational pathway
  • without a qualification for university entrance / with a vocational qualification
  • who are undergoing additional training
  • who were unable to study earlier for family reasons.

In general, this depends on the (standard) period of study. However, it is also possible to extend the funding. These exceptions are e.g.:

  • Semester abroad (voluntary)
  • Illness
  • raising children
  • elected member of a committee.

Please feel free to contact us in this regard.

Yes.

Students entering the 5th semester must submit a transcript of records showing their performance over 4 semesters. Students who can already show a positive performance level after the 3rd semester no longer have to provide proof after the fourth semester. However, this is not a must. Exceptions may also apply in the case of negative evidence of academic achievement. Please contact us.
