What is BAföG?
BAföG (=BerufsAusbildungsförderungsGesetz) refers - in addition to the actual law - to the financial support provided by the state for students and pupils in Germany. Funding is provided to those whose own assets are not sufficient to finance their studies and whose parents cannot (sufficiently) support them in financing their studies.
There is a lot of general information on the Internet about this individual educational support (for example, at www.bafög.de) and also a BAföG calculator that can be used to check the entitlement to the educational support: www.bafoeg-rechner.de/Rechner/
Why apply for BAföG?
1. Only half of the grant money you receive has to be paid back after you finish your studies.
2. Less money worries: BAföG recipients can focus on their studies.
3. After graduation, the maximum debt is 10,010 euros, even if a higher amount was drawn. Repayment does not begin until five years after the end of the subsidy.
