Internship semester abroad
Are you planning to complete your mandatory semester abroad as an internship with a company or public institution abroad? Then you will find all the information you need to prepare for and follow up on your internship abroad on this page.
The mandatory semester abroad usually takes place in the 6th semester of the BIM degree programs. In order for your compulsory semester abroad to be recognized, you must comply with certain formalities before and after the practical semester abroad.
Keep your eyes open for the date of the semester abroad information event, which takes place once a semester. The date will be communicated via OLAT and you should attend this event in the 3rd or 4th semester (attending the event is a prerequisite for being allowed to go abroad!)
Before the internship semester abroad
The following minimum requirements must be met:
- Participation in an information event on the subject of a semester abroad
- Passing all module examinations of the first three semesters of study (proof by grade transcript)
- English B2 certificate
The following documents must be bundled (i.e. IN ONE email) and submitted to Mr. Gkontokos in Department 1 for approval:
- Completed form "Application for approval of internship abroad"
- incl. topic of the internship report (select in advance or coordinate with the module coordinator)
- incl. internship contract (at least 20 complete calendar weeks without interruption & at least 20 working hours/week)
- incl. current transcript of records
The documents must be submitted to the Department at least 4 weeks before the start of the internship!
After the internship semester abroad
The following formalities are required for recognition of the semester abroad:
- Signed "Application for approval of internship abroad" incl. internship contract
- Proof of the internship activity
- e.g. internship certificate or a certificate stating the type and duration of the position as well as the activities in the areas completed
- Presentations (incl. an electronic version) about the practical semester abroad as part of a course in the following semester
- completed questionnaire about the semester abroad
- "Application for recognition of the practical semester abroad"
- a two-part practical report of at least 6,000 words:
- (1) an experience report of at least 1,500 words, usually in English
- (2) the preparation of a subject-specific topic of at least 4,500 words
- The practical report must be submitted to the Department by the 1st week of lectures of the following semester at the latest!
