The Library of LUBS
Welcome to the LUBS-Library
The university library is a hub of learning and research, offering a wide range of resources to support your academic journey:

Health Insurance and Bank Account
Health insurance
If you are not from EU, then you will have to take care of your German insurance (or an insurance, that will be valid in Germany). There are three most popular insurance companies: Barmer, AOK & TK. You can ask the International Office to take the money automatically (125€/month for AOK). You can also try to have an insurance from your country, but keep in mind, that it can be rejected. The situation may be different for some countries. Ukrainian health insurance is not valid for study purposes in Germany, so keep that in mind. If you are from Turkey, you don’t need a German insurance: You can take AT11 insurance documents from your government. It is valid in Germany.
It depends on the insurance company but often private insurance is cheaper than public insurance. When you want to change to private insurance you have to inform your public insurance company and receive a document. The process cn be complicated but the cost is half of public insurance.

Bank accounts
There are online banking services (eg. Revolut, Wise), but you can also have an account in banks like DeutscheBank, Sparkasse and other. If you want to open a bank account here, you will need an appointment (you can ask your buddy to help you). Keep in mind that you’ll need a translator (if you don’t know the German language well).
In general, everything depends on the country you’re coming from: If you’re from Ukraine, you can open an account with Monobank (0% commission), Privatbank or any other bank. In Turkey, you have 2 options: Fintiba or Expatrio. In our group, the students did some research and choose Expatrio.
You have to put your all money into the account before comeing to Germany. The government requires 934 EUR per student. Taking scholarships (600 EUR) into account that`s 934 EUR - 600 EUR = 334 Euro per month (depending on you scholarship). After arriving in Germany you can activate your blocked account and take monthly payment.
