The European university network ETAP, to which 17 universities from 15 European countries belong and which has existed for over 25 years, stands for 'European Taxation and Accounting in Practice'. It focuses on international accounting in accordance with IFRS. For many years, the ETAP initiative has been organizing the so-called European Accountancy Week (EAW) at one of its university locations every year, which brings together students from the fields of accounting and finance from all over Europe. For them, but also for the accompanying professors, the EAW is a platform that offers the opportunity for exchange, further education and networking - both in professional and cultural terms.
The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU), which represents Germany, is hosting the format for the first time this year. From February 23 to March 1, 2025, initiator Prof. Dr. Axel Kihm is expecting a multinational delegation of 130 people at the newly designed campus in Mundenheim.
"As an association of European universities, ETAP is keen to use the European Accountancy Week to promote exchange between students and give them an understanding of the international dimension of business - for example by means of case studies that are worked on in mixed teams. In addition to imparting specialist knowledge, it is also very much about building language and intercultural skills, developing teamwork skills and promoting the development of personal international networks," says Axel Kihm, explaining the concept of the network, of which he himself has been a member since 2007.
In addition to the technical part, which includes lectures, workshops and case study work, the supporting programme he has organized includes a visit to Speyer Cathedral and the Eichbaum brewery in Mannheim as well as an exchange with company representatives from E&Y and BASF. Intercultural activities such as the traditional Tasting Activity at the start of the meeting and the Closing Ceremony, both of which take place on campus, round off the varied EAW program.
