The current trends of increasing digitalization in business and society are leading to new challenges and the merging of technologies that blur the boundaries between the digital, physical and biological spheres and thus require new approaches to corporate management, government, politics and the public. Students from the elective subject Entrepreneurship faced these challenges. They had three months to develop a business idea in the field of sustainability and AI. The digital design project was supported by SAP SE.
On June 16, 2023, six teams from various degree programs and Departments presented their fictitious start-ups to Prof. Dr. Christina Stadler and Dr. Norbert Koppenhagen, Vice President Sustainability Innovation at SAP SE.
The first team developed VÄKOS, an app for winegrowers and farmers that uses sensors to measure certain data, such as drought or pest infestation, so that remedial action can be taken quickly.
Large companies and institutions such as universities are the target group of the start-up e-Wasteless. Scanning cell phones and other electronic devices with the e-Wasteless app shows the customer whether the device is still repairable or should be recycled.
Clothing AI offers an app for determining the size of clothing. It is designed to offer an optimal shopping experience when shopping online and prevent the many returns, thus making a significant contribution to sustainability.
eco share aims to make the logistics sector more effective. The software application prevents empty runs and partial loads. Companies can quickly and easily find transport companies that have capacity for small deliveries of goods. This saves manpower, CO² and money.
Living Home is all about greening houses. Whether greening facades or roofs, the app can be used to calculate the number of plants and their lifespan. At the same time, the greenery serves as home insulation, which in turn leads to CO² savings.
With Best Before Date, customers can use an app to see in which supermarket which products that are close to their best-before date are available at which discounted price. The aim is to prevent the destruction of expired food in supermarkets.
The digital design project gave the students an insight into founding a start-up and the associated challenges.
