Many investors are currently concerned about a possible financial crash: the topic of the 9th Ludwigshafen Finance Talks, led by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Walz from the Department of Services and Consulting, once again attracted around 300 guests to the university.
Event initiator Prof. Dr. Hartmut Walz from the Department of Services and Consulting had promised concrete orientation and recommendations for action in the event of a possible financial crash and kept his word. Walz explained the most important facts and background in a scientifically sound and understandable manner, ran through various scenarios - financial crash yes or no; with or without the collapse of the euro currency system and then pointed out "feel-good strategies" in the face of potential crash risks. His maxim for action: to position yourself "robustly and flexibly" in order to be prepared for all eventualities.
Walz took a humorous look at questionable crash prophets, explained the monetary theory of the Austrian School and Modern Monetary Theory and explained technical terms such as the Cantillon effect, fiat money, zombie companies and Jenga finance. Walz illustrated the latter with a giant Jenga game on stage: alluding to bank towers, the expert pulled out some of the lower building blocks from the stacked tower in order to stack them on top. Although this allowed the tower to grow in height, it also made the tower construction dangerously unstable.
With a large-format "wish ring" on his finger, Walz also illustrated the construct behind the European monetary system and the positive effect of faith: "If everyone trusts that the construct will not collapse even with more and more debt, then it may continue to function for a long time. If not, it's good to be prepared," says Walz.
